I take Jasons picking over Robs ringer picking. Jason brings so much baddass to Merallica... when metallica did 30th anniversary and and he played with them again, it was like Metallica was given new life. They were on fire... Rob is extremely talented but my Metallica is with J.
Steve Harris, Cliff Burton, Jason Newstand, David Elifson, Billy Sheehan these are the bass players that made impact on me.

I have to agree, cliff is/was a metal bass king! But yea, i never got the hate about playing bass with a pick. It's how i do it, then again i only picked up bass to add more to my songs, that and jason newstead is an awesome guy as well as a bassist. if only he didn't get effed over on "And justice for all" then that album would be on a whole other level.
And if they did master of puppets production on it. That album is mixed by Lars and Het and if shows....

Oh definitely. I once watched an interview with Newstead and the topic of "and justice for all" and about his bass being basically reduced to nothing and asked him if he was upset over it. Newstead said, no it is what it is. He then went on to say "but I will say, through my experience you can often tell who mixed it by which instruments are louder."

I love Jason, he is as metal as they come.
