Dog Gone It!

Today is a sad day that I have to make the decision to put my dog Thor to sleep. He is 15 years old, blind, deaf and is having problems walking. He has been on a prescription diet for the past year, but it seems as though his time has come. He has not eaten anything in the past 2 days. Last year on Sept 27th, we had to put Cole, my other dog down. Below is a picture of Cole (black fur) and Thor (brown fur.) Thor would repeat "I love you" when I would say it to him. I have a video somewhere with him saying this. The picture below was taken several years ago.

Well golly gee wilikers. When I got home from work tonight, Mrs Wav told me that Thor ate. He went out to poop and pee and was wagging his tail. When I felt his head last night, it was warm. Tonight it was normal. He is laying in his normal comfortable position we like to call "pretzil dog."

I feel like I may have jumped the gun giving up on him, but he's back to his normal self.

All good Grant. Happy he's feeing better. My oldest took his pooch to the vet about a year ago. He didn't think he'd come home with him.... but Vet told him that Jack will let them know when it's time. They got almost another year before they knew it was time. He was a cool dog. Wasn't much for cuddling with another dog, but my youngest at the time grandkid could crawl all over him... lay on him.... in general just pester the crap out of the poor dog, and Jack would barely move.

Our pit Rosie just wanted to take a nap behind the house,, it was sprinkling and I told her come on girl let’s go in to the house. She did and then passed away in her normal sleeping place. :-(

That was the best way for her go, in her sleep. I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in horror like his passengers .

Yeah, it's a rough call to have to decide when to put a pet down. When they can die peacefully, not in pain, that is indeed the optimum way to go. I struggle with wanting to keep them alive, but not wanting them to suffer.

I sure get that Grant. Years ago we had a Beagle. Not the sharpest tack in the drawer, but she was a cool dog. I’d sit in the floor watching races on Sunday and she’d curl up on the floor next to me. I was much younger then. No way I’d get up off the floor on my own today!!

She started having some back and hip issues, but the vet was always able to help her feel better. Then she started having seizures. Just once in awhile. But they started getting more frequent. Unfortunately, we may have waited a day or two too long. Vet made a house call…. And she was at peace. And I still get emotional when I think about that. It’s tough to let them go.
