Dog Ear Humbucker

IMG_4036.JPG IMG_6612.JPG IMG_7178.JPG IMG_7937.JPG Love? Not on a sales page. If that was love the that gun in my back was a wedding night. Cause that guy Figueroa me good.
I love the dog ears over the soap bars because of the look.

You're brave, Smitty - RVA is gonna go ballistic when he sees this thread!

True, true.

But, there is definite head-messing value in knowing the P-90 can be seamlessly swapped for a humbucker!

Decisions...decisions...

But----why---- when the P90 is its own animal ----thats like going to a steak place and ordering fish-- buying a Chevy and asking to put a Ford logo on the hood-- eating COOKED sushi! (the horror)

He OWNS a million humbuckers---- and a half million P90's.......but--- a DOGEAR P90 will be the pink crayon in the yellow box

possibly the one and only guitar he doesnt "tinker" with and "improve" because well....its rather damn good right the way it is....at least I think so--- but I just make this stuff up to poke the bear anyway :)

Oh, I’m not saying he should swap the dogear P-90 for a humbucker.

I’m just saying there is potential entertainment value for the rest of us in simply knowing he can swap the dogear P-90 for a humbucker!

Oh the horror!! That HB does not seem to be adjustable in that configuration, and I will NOT be installing it ANYWHERE. Now I will double down and make sure I install an ADJUSTABLE soapbar under a dog ear cover as in that video to combat this evil. It might not surprise anyone to know that I have already ordered 4 spare dog ear covers so that I can perfect this process (while leaving the original hardware intact). Any remaining ADJUSTABLE dog ear configurations I have are up for grabs so that I may restore the balance in the force.

Im still not grasping the adjustability of instaling a soap bar into the fixed plastic DOgear cover---does the pup move up and back under the cover???? thus giving "adjustability" to the magnets but not the cover?
--Hows that gonna effect the tone......interesting-----

Did you watch the video on single pup guitars Grumpy posted??------ really seems simple to me---- nail the pup in the right place --- learn to adjust with the knobs and your fingers---

The pole pieces would receed from the plastic when adjusted, but this is no different than a covered pup.

But the whole unit (magnet/poles) doesnt move.....like say a humbucker or single coil----

Some P90 Dog Ears come with adjustable pole pieces.....actually most modern ones do
Case in point..... Casino Coupe that was here for a bit-----

---(not the Les Paul Jr however) basically Gibson is saying "this is the optoimal poistion for this pickup dont muck about with it" ......and well........its sure works....

The larger half (larger half?) of my guitars are completely stock and will stay that way.
The other half are modded to the point where the body is the only original part left.

Half measures are for wussies.
Go BIG or go home.

The only mods to any of my guitars at this point are things like knobs and plastic bits. I only plan to change something if it breaks from this point on.

I am unique, and so shall be my guitars.

Got no problem with that. I used to pretty much mod all of them, but over time I realized that I wasn't making any off them better, just different. And I was spending time doing it that I could have spent playing them plus obsessing about meaningless (to me ) small details plus spending unnecessary (to me) money, so I simply stopped the practice and I have been happier for it.
