Does Tho Shroud Thy Case?

Only two of mine have shrouds one grey, one pink.

One or two of my guitars are shrouded in mystery, though.

Hey, somebody should sell guitar shrouds printed with the image fron the Shroud of Turin.
In this day and age, perhaps someone already does...

PS: Vintage correct would begin, "Dost thou..." Can't put 20th century parts on a 17th century phrase - collectors would complain.

nothing like that on any of my guitar cases... Here's the SKB case I use to protect my favorite guitar.
Luna feels safe in there, and doesn't need a thing else.

My two SGs both came with gig bags... I bought an SKB case for Catalina, the silver burst
and an official Gibson case for Luna, the faded brown. Then I switched 'em, feeling that the
SKB case was the better of them. The SKB case is impervious to anything except hammer blows
and maybe bullet hits. That's what I want from a case. I don't want or need a shroud. I use a
bandana to wipe sweat off the strings... that's enough.
Here's Catalina in the official Gibson SG case (with no shroud of Tourin' ) ...She's happy in there.

My Gibson J-45 AG (Zelda) came with a nice traddie style Gibson hard case in 2018. See below... I retired this case immediately
because it is so fragile. What good is a case that needs a case to protect it from scuffs and hard knocks? This one's pretty, but...

I had been touring with my old Mossman acoustic from 1977 until 2019. I used up at least three cases for that
Mossman guitar in all the years we were traveling, they all just got beat to hell and then replaced. When we got the nod to
tour in Europe, I bought the Mossman a Hiscox case, and threw away whatever the Mossman was in. That case was
patched with duck tape and epoxy...

Once again, the Hiscox is impervious. It's been to Europe with me twice, and to Alaska and not only suffered no damage
but it didn't damage any other gear. Hiscox is an expensive case, but it does what it's supposed to do, protect the
instrument. Airlines couldn't damage it ...neither could taxi guys. The case didn't show any scuffs. That's ideal IMHO.

A shroud is only fru-fru IMHO.

I sold the Mossman in 2019 along with my other "vintage" instruments, and kept a smaller number of less valuable instruments.
But I didn't sell the Hiscox case... they wouldn't have given me anything for it. I gave it to one of my colleagues who
still travels to Ireland and Scotland, leading tours. So that case is still in service. My beloved J-45 is back in her original Gibson brown case
since I'm not touring any more, only doing a few local gigs. No shroud, no problem.

A Gibson case is only good for genteel use... it needs protection from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.
It's fine if you keep it in a carpeted room, and transport it on the upholstered seat of your fine car.
But for a touring pro, a Gibson case is useless, shroud and all. Unless yer a high class touring artist with an entourage of
roadies who will keep your guitar's case from getting damaged, and transport it in a padded equipment locker.
If you have to load your own in and out, and transport your equipment in a minivan or pickup truck, get an SKB case,
or a Hiscox case, or a Reunion Blues Gig bag (below).
I have all of those, and can testify.

Now THAT'S a case for a road guitar.
I got one rectangular heavy duty SKB case to fit LPs. So everytime I take an LP out, it goes in there. Has room for a genuine Well-Hung guitar strap, wireless, etc.

My Strats have a Hiscox case, it's been chucked in cars and vans and been al over the country and Europe, but I don't have storage space for empty cases for guitars that never leave the house.
