I'm thinking these worms are just what this country needs right now.
Make America squirm again...
But besides that why would anybody want to kill worms? These are the national resources of our future!
Worms live underground and you don't see them all too often.

I would bet that you are right!
I might pay a premium for worms that did that on a hook. Actually getting them on a hook might be a challenge, but where there's a will, there's a way.

I’ve read that this particular type of worm does not add nutrients to soil, and help improve it. It does the exact opposite and depletes the soil of nutrients. And because it is not indigenous to North America, it does not fit in the food chain to be regulated. Like other worms, it is a Hermaphrodite and can reproduce without a partner which means it’s population can easily grow without interference.

No, but they are imported. Just like the Asian long horn beetles that are decimating forests across the US and Canada. They are the real rise in costs of lumber these days. Small price to pay to have cheap garbage that no one really needs that is made in China, then shipped here.

I think we all need to develop some degree of worm sensitivity.

In many cases, the species importation is unintentional and is a consequence of trade. Some insect or other critter will be a stowaway inside some product being imported to a country.

I knew this guy in Hawaii who brought in clothing from the East and China.
His storage room was built from bamboo -- full of those beetles, living inside the walls....
