Discussion: Recording, DAWs, and Mixing

He would take tracks and use reverb to set them back in the mix.
That’s an excellent exercise for learning about the “pre-delay” setting available in some reverbs…controlling the size and placement in space…I suck at that, most of the time.
I wish I had individual drum tracks but I amneither a drummer or an engineer.
You can render EZ Drummer stuff out to individual tracks for further processing. You could go in and shut off all of the effects first, render out to tracks, and play around. Drums are wicked fun to mix!!!

I might try that. Individual tracks for each piece of the kit. Wow
Lots of work.

Since we are doing Riffmasters I have got to listen to such wide variety of stuff.
Now my youtube feed is completely jacked up. Lol

I have used MTP drum in Reaper. It's not bad.
Got a song I’d like to get into reaper. Felt it best to lay a beat down first as a “metronome.” And it’s a fairly easy beat. Simple drums. Simple fill. I should be able to get something close. Then work on the guitar part(s). Maybe a bass line. Most likely just for fun as it doesn’t really fit into the Riffmasters fun and games.

I finally figured out an issue when using Wall of Sound plugin inside Reaper. Nice to open Reaper up last week and get the pop-up to buy the thing. I looked up my license and it said I was covered until 6.99. Oooof. Guess another $60 won't be bad for 5 years of playing.

The Wall of Sound plugin when using it as a VST, doesn't show the entire window when you open it up. The bottom and right side get cut off. You have to choose a smaller window size in the interface to show the full screen. But when you close the window and reopen, it's opens in the smaller screen size, in a smaller window, with the bottom and right side cut off again.

If I open it up with the VST3 version, it opens up correctly. I downloaded and loaded up the VST3 and AU versions this weekend just to see how it works.

An accomplishment in the DAW and recording department. I managed to load a drum track into Reaper. Using MT Power Drum Kit…. It was free. Don’t know what I’m doing with it…. But it’s a start.
I have to figure out how to properly import my EXDrummer tracks into Reaper. Last time I did it, it created 16 tracks, one for each kit piece but all the MIDI information was on a single master track. Didn't seem right to me and I gave up after a few.

You don't have to pay for Reaper again if you use up to the latest version previous to the new one that is requiring you to pay again. Mine has been good for 10 years but required me to pay again at version 7. I just stick with v6.99 (or whatever it is) to keep things where they are at.

If yours expired back in the '90s then yea, an upgrade would surely be needed.

Also, if you create a new "Virtual Instruments" track then import EZDrummer Reaper should ask you if you want to spread out the tracks or keep them on one stereo one. It's a "Yes" or "No" dialog but I forgot which is which.

Universal Audio finally released the native (not requiring their hardware) version the Manly VariMu plugin. This allowed me to finally complete their Manley Plugin set:

Do they still require some kind of dongle?…like an ilock? Or will they run from a license?
Yep, the iLok dongle is necessary. With iLok the vendor can decide if they want the lock to be on the computer, the cloud (internet based), or actually on the dongle itself. UA only offers the dongle-only option, so you have to physically have it.

I don't believe you are allowed to resell their plugs either. Lol

@Thatbastarddon

It would be a REAL good deal for you to get the $50 dongle then take advantage of their current offering...

For $299, the Signature bundle contains 44 of their top plugs; including 4 of the Manleys. THEN there is a current introductory sale for the VariMu for only $49. THEN there is a coupon that comes up during checkout that says you get the VariMu FREE if you've spent over $99, which you did.

That's 45 plugin's roughly $200 to $300 each for the $299. That's many thousand of bucks in savings and ALL their premium plugs at the same time.

Well, + the $50 dongle price. Still and no-brainer huge deal all together.

I could help you with all the stuff involved. It's really quite simple.

Sapient, you are killing me here.
Do I want that ? Yes , do I need it ? Probably not.
After diving in to external stuff looking back I could have easily just spent $299
to get the whole 9 yards.

Yea, it's a great 3 deals in one actually. Like I said, one plug cost as much as the bundle normally. It's buy one get 44 free essentially.

This could be a game changer.

A paid preset sharing network??

I sense unscrupulousness in this now or at a later point.

I don't know, iBs. (??)
