Difference between WGS Veteran 30 and Retro 30:

I assume you are putting it in your DSL combo? The best thing I have ever used in an open-back cabinet is this:

Speaker - 12" Celestion Custom 90 - UK Made - Choose Impedance

They take an ice-age to break in but once they do they have the best low end of any speaker I've used in an open back cab. Warm and smooth but punchy. High end sounds like a less raspy Greenback to me.
Wow! That looks really good on paper. I would like to try one... dammit... darn GAS...

The only WGS speakers I have are the ET65's in a 2 x 12" Mesa cabinet I like them big improvement over the stock vintage 30's
Most of my amps are Dumble based and the best is EVM12-S 300 watt then EVM-12-L 200 watt Next is Fane 12L the Fane cuts some of the high frequency
I have not tried the WGS 12-L it looks good.
I like inflate sustain clean and overdrive where the notes bloom and take off some call it note flipping.
You can't get that from china made resistors but you can with NOS Piher resistors. That's what Marshall used in their glory days.
Same with transformers new power transformers are OK but I only use seasoned OPT in my builds.
I've only serviced thousands of guitar amps since 1973 what do I know. I feel honored that I built two amps for my favorite guitarist in the world they cost $15,000.00 in parts.
Robert if I were you I would try to contact Billy Zoom in LA I know he is ill but he is a master amp tech.

Right on!

I bought a Crate V22 and cab when they were blowing them out many moons ago as my 1st tube amp since I decided to try and play again. Bought their suggested pairing ET-65/Vet. 30 for the cab. Still have the cab & WGS's. I got an old Kustom cab given to me with Celestion G12-65n's in them but I didn't need a 4x12 looming around with a couple combo's so when I was trading one of my heads I gave it to the guy but pulled a pair of the G12-65's. I bought an open back 1x12 to use with my Ibanez head. Put the Vet. 30 in it and sounded good....all my cabs including my combo's were all sealed cabs. I think I am liking the open back more so ordering another 1x12. I have 1 of the g12's in it now with the WGS Combo in the same old 2x12. I want to use 1 or the other heads instead of both to do stereo basically. Wow long winded to say I think I am liking the G12's more than the Vet. 30 in an open back. I haven't tried the G12's in the 2x12 yet. Once I get the other 1x12 it will be speaker swapping time.

I been running 90 watt Celestion Creambacks and they are nice. Lots of headroom. But the tonal qualities are better IMHO with a lowered wattage speaker.

WHAT is the guitar he is using!?!?!?
It sustains for as long as it takes to grow that beard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's a bit of a risk, running at full power, on its own. Spec'd at 30 watts, it would be better suited in a 1x12 cab running along with the stock speaker sharing the load in that scenario.

No problem at half power though. I would tape a cap over the pentode/triode switch, once set to half power, though.
