Decided to go acoustic for a while

I'm not giving up on electric. I just decided I'm tired of trying to find jams to play in and there are lots of open mics for a singer/guitarist at local venues. To that end I decided I need a flashier acoustic than my Taylor and also something that I didn't mind if it got a little beat up. Yesterday I bought this used Epiphone PR6E TA. It's very easy to play, almost like an electric. It sounds pretty good, not as good as the Taylor, but good enough for stage work. It has an XLR low Z output so I can plug directly into the house PA. Now I just gotta figure how to sing and play guitar at the same time.

Are you playing acoustically, or do you still plug in? They have a really nice acoustic sound through the piezo pickup.

I plan on plugging in. With the low z output I won't need a DI box. I can plug right into the PA system. Besides the sound is a little thin played acoustically. Plugged in it is very full sounding. I bought it more for it's looks than the sound. The sound is more than good enough for a open mic in a bar. I find if you look good at an open mic the crowd will overlook it if your singing isn't too far off key. Be confident and looking good is 3/4s of the battle.

Sing and play guitar at the same time?

Yeah, right.

I'm lucky I can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I can sing. I can play guitar. But never ever at the same time. It ain't pretty.

PS: Have fun Kerry. Coming from one who's been an acoustic player only for all but the last few years of over 40 years of playing the guitar.... my passion is still acoustic.

cool Epi... how old is it?
It's an odd model that appears to be be quite rare. As near as I can tell it was made in Korea in 1995. I got it with a beat up old case for $250 CDN. It has a skinny neck for an acoustic which suits me. For such a thin guitar it sounds surprisingly good acoustically. I was looking to buy an Epiphone Hummingbird or EJ-200SCE mostly because they are flashy on stage and have a big sound. This one is just as flashy and plugged in the sound is just as big. I played it for about three hours today learning some new songs. I'm pretty impressed with the playability and the sound.
