Deceased brothers drums.

Hi all.
As most of you know, my older brother passed away in January this year.
I got a call from my Dad yesterday, asking me to meet my younger brother at my older brothers house.
I got there, went inside, and my brother Ben told me to take the drum kit that my older brother had bought last year.
No one else in my family plays drums, so they decided I should take it.
It"s a 2024 Yamaha 5 piece Stage Custom.
All the hardware is Yamaha, and it has some ok'ish Meinl cymbals, which I'll eventually replace with some better ones.
Anyway, I know as a fellow degenerate that you all like music porn, so here it is for your perusal!

Thanks guys. It wasn't a complete surprise to receive them, as my dad offered them to me a few months back.
Although it was hard going to my brothers house, as he was found deceased on the kitchen floor, which is precisely where the drum kit had been moved to, even though I am certain that it wasn't deliberately put there.
I gave the kit a good clean up as it was extremely dusty. I need to go to the local music store and get some drum polish to finish it off, although I think you can actually use car polish on them. (Please chime in and correct me if I'm wrong here)...
It's a full 5 piece kit: 14" snare, 10" and 12" rack toms, 16" floor tom and 20" kick.
The heads are virtually brand new, so they can stay. I'm just not a big fan of the cymbals (Meinl MCS 14" hats, 16" crash and 20" ride). They're only budget grade cymbals that do the job, but they're way too bright for my tastes. (I'm thinking a nice set of Zildjian A's or Paiste 2002's will do the trick....
One thing that is an absolute bonus is that all the cymbal stands, including the hi hat stand, and the snare stand plus the kick pedal are original Yamaha... I was surprised, as his last kit was a mix of different branded stands. (To be honest, it was actually a real surprise that it is a Yamaha kit... The last kit I remember him having was a real budget mom and pop store kit that cost him like $500 including cymbals!
Anyway, these drums will be getting plenty of love, and will be passed down to my son when I get too old and arthritic to play.

I saved a cheap set from trash pickup
Looked a wreck
Cleaned up good, I added mufflers and slowly went to town on cymbals & even added a set of roto-toms
All the cymbals except 1 crash & the splash were bought used to save some $$$
Ended up

This thread really hits me in the feels. My younger brother passed away in 2023 and was the best drummer i ever knew and my musical soulmate. He had two sets of Pearl export series kits. One was a brilliant blue color (don't know what the color was called), complete with a sh*t ton of Zildigen and Sabian ( I know I probably butchered the spellings) cymbals. The other one, he wrapped with black snakeskin vinyl(?) wrap and put all black hardware and rims on it. It had a huuuuge kick drum (don't know the actual size) and it's own set of the same kind of cymbals. He had them both set up in his house and could literally play one, get up and play the other without having to move anything. The black set he called Anna (short for anaconda) and it sounded like John Bonnham's amber vistalite set on steroids. we donated tje blue set to his college alma matter's music program, but I told mom to keep the black set as thats the one he really put his blood, sweat and tears into. I don't know why I told her to keep it as none of us play drums. It sits now just as he left it...gathering dust and just making me sad when we're at his place. I clean it up when I can but it still just sits...waiting for it's master and creator who will never return. I'll post some pics sometime if I can figure out how to.

I feel for your loss. He was my only sibling and I miss him terribly and wish I could hear that set played one more time before I kick off this rock.

take care and God bless, I'm glad your brother's set will be played and enjoyed.

Thanks so much.

Yeah, his instructor/professor/mentor is the head of the music dept. at the college and said he was gonna make the room where his set is gonna be is going to be named after him (plaque on the door with his name, and everything).

My brother was his assistant for years and the guy told me he was one of the best drummers he ever worked with, as well.

like I said, don't know what Pearl called the blue color but it was the color of Sonic the Hedgehog, LOL...he even had a Sonic plushy that he always set on the kick drum. My daughter is now the proud owner of that Sonic plushy.:rolf:
