More research on heat sinks led me here.

WOW what a resource I found. So much info taught here, just have to click on a topic.

nope -- I aint going scuba diving in lake superior and I aint SOLDERING ............and no amount of Molson and maple syrup will change that ;)

Chili that is definitely a heat sink. My Hafler DH220 stereo amp had a massive one on each end. Basically works like a radiator to get rid of heat. Made out of aluminum with lots of surface area.

Thank you Cador. I am not as sharp in my memory as in the past due to loads of stuff on my mind all at the same time.

However, As soon as I saw the word heat sink, I remembered LOL.
My most recent use of the words was in soldering, Using heat sink to avoid overheating a component/cap/wire etc.

Yes Chilli, that large, finned chunk of aluminium is a heatsink. This removes the heat from the power transistors. Without it they would fry in short order. Note the insulating material between the transistors & heatsink, providing electrical isolation & thermal conduction. Cheers
