damn IRISHMAN!

That's one of my favorite Rory tunes. We used to cover it when I was in Awakening Stick.

Back around 2004, we played at a Phil Lynott tribute show. Each band was supposed to have a 30 minute set. We learned four very difficult tunes, and had a friend of mine be the second guitarist in the band since we were a three piece. Ends up that two bands cancelled that evening. I think they didn't realize how tough those songs are to play, and how much you need to practice them. Anyway, the booking agent was begging bands wondering if they had similar material to fill in time. I told her we had probably 30 minutes of Rory Gallagher material, and it was only a few days from the anniversary of his death. Since we were the last band, I said we could finish with that. She begged us to do it, so we did.

Our Thin Lizzy set was:
Are You Ready?
Genocide
Don't Believe a word
Opium Trail

Our Rory set:
Bad Penny
Big Guns
Too Much Alcohol
Shadow Play

I love this guy and the Irish! My first English speaking friends, back in Brooklyn were Irish. We were poor exiles and we all shared with each other, what ever we had. I got that Rory live CD with two concerts on it. I wish it only had the one concert with all the songs on it. I have the record, which I purchased used and all scratched up. In my book, Rory is one of the finest slide players along with Johnny Winter, Duane and a few others.

Looks like this one has been deleted from youtube:

Probably my favourite piece of music. Maybe I should back it up somewhere before it disappears entirely...
