Next to my old Datsun 510 and a Mustang 5.0, here is my favorite 40 MPG car.

upload_2017-5-13_8-54-58.jpeg

I got mine at auction for $200 and the best part is when my friends and I find 2 to 4 used 13 inch tires on rims for a dollar at auctions sometimes and when it is tire swap time, it is a 20 minute job to unbolt 16 lugs and just pop 4 mounted tires on and down the road I go.

this is what I was really driving in 1974...
'68 Chevy station wagon, straight 6, three speed tranny with the
gear shift on the steering column, bench seats, steel dashboard,
a.m. radio and power nothing. The basic basic model. Drum brakes
all around, the exhaust pipe was just a steel pipe, with a muffler.

My dad gave it to me after he put 100,000 miles on it.
I could keep it running with minimal tools and skills.
Open the hood, and everything is right there, plenty of room to work without
skinning your knuckles too much. Fix it and it stayed fixed. An excellent
engine and power train, no bugs or glitches. Just GM goodness. ONE belt,
no hoses except fuel line and coolant. Simple carb... everything plain and
easy to see. Steel bumpers, you could suspend the whole car on one, with the
"bumper jack." Remember those? Didn't think so... they sucked, actually.
I should have named that car "Top Dead Center," but as a young buck, I named
her Ya Mama.
I didn't wear a lab coat when I worked on THIS car... I wore old
jeans and a t-shirt, and got filthy. *laughs

I could have bought a car like this for $100 in similar condition, in '74.
But I spent that hundred buying this:
Whole bass_4x.jpg
The Chevy's long gone, but I'm still playing the same bass. So the Fender gives
better service I guess. Better mileage for sure. That old Chevy got about 17 mpg.
Maybe a little more. That wasn't important when the car was designed.
The car was designed to haul stuff, which is what I used it for. guitars, amps,
groupies, all jumbled up in the back. I think it had seat belts, but nobody ever
used them.

The definition of a musician for 2017 is:
"Someone who loads $5000 worth of equipment into a $1000 car
and drives 500 miles to play a hundred dollar gig."

It's adjustable for inflation of course, so it's always been true more or less...
...and isn't it amazing how the prices of everything (including fuel, guitars, amps,
cars, pedals, strings, clothes, hotel rooms, meals... everything) has gone sky high
except the money you get for a gig has stayed about the same... *bitter grin

confess... you know you want it...
really big wheels.jpg

when I was a kid in the '50s there was no such thing.
I had a second hand tricycle, but what I lusted after
was this:
pedalgearbox4.jpg
My dad would never buy it. Actually, he knew that the big kids in the neighborhood would have
instantly dumped me out of this, and stomped both me and the car if they saw me trundling this
down the sidewalk at the age of four. They were mean and evil. Cork sniffers... eh?

Gas.....lol who pays for that stuff anyway? Oh my job does.......they also buy my Z-71's that basically are my everyday personal vehicle. Can't take the Trans Am or Harley out to the oil field.
I did buy a new Nissan Versa 5spd sedan also when I bought the 370z but I gave it to my GF/Fiance' or whatever you want to call her. Not Married but been together 20+ years.

surprisingly it isn't that bad on gas at all but it's bone stock, well less than that actually. The old guy I bought it from put single outlet exhaust on it.....currently waiting for a dual set up to come in :)

Some sweet rides! One day when I grow up...lol I will own a Ferrari or Lambo. Mura's are now out of my range...like they ever were in it! Love me some cars though. Just sold my 370z and picked up a Trans Am to tinker with. I always end up back in a Camaro/Trans Am...this is my 6th.
Avatar, well played RobV ...damn well played.

My parents had the exact same car when I was a kid around the same time!

Very nice! I use to have a 93' 5.0/5spd Paxton Supercharged Mustang when I was in the Army.
Sorry these pics are from 1994 :p I soon after got married and had a baby so it got sold. I actually have a couple more pics of this now. My brother just gave me a couple he had from back in the day when he was at Ft. Hood and would come down to Ft. Bliss to visit. I was actually looking to get another Mustang as I have had a lot of Camaro's & T/A's but got a good deal on the 97' T/A so that is what I have :)
