I depend on my computer to work from home every other week. Tonight when I try to access the computer that I need to connect to, to do my job, I can't connect. Although I do have automatic updates turned off, Microsoft in all of it's wisdom pushed an update through to my home computer anyway. Now I can't get in to do my job!!!! I'll be spending the night trying roll back the updates and get this computer back on it's feet. Any geeks out here will know what I'm talking about. Grrrrrr

Went to bed at 12, woke up at 5 and it's still uninstalling the last windows security update.

On my first Dell Precision M6300, I had that same update crap and my computer would not log on properly until I tried the update a number of times.
It "took" after a number of failed attempts and finally a lengthy overnight attempt where I stayed up almost all night and then finally fell asleep and it actually completed. The only thing is now a couple weeks later I get that Windows is expiring message I am at a loss as to what to do,, short of buying a Windows 10 factory OS or whatever to get the proper code.

Good luck G. Sorry your work and time has suffered due to this crap.

Indeed, I have built Red Hat servers, this site is hosted on a Linux server,
and at work we are on CentOS. Unfortunatly, there are many programs that I require here at home that do not run on Linux.

I really don't understand computers and operating systems - and I don't want to. We (family) got our first PC about 20 years ago, and it's been Microsoft OS's ever since. The first 15 years has been a lot of head scratching and headaches, but the last 5 have been pretty smooth. Especially with Windows 10... go figure...

We have 6 laptops and 2 desktops all with Win 7 except one I used as a guinea pig for Win 10. About 5 years ago I cut the cable cord and have been using a dedicated Win 7 laptop as my DVR (requires a tuning widget). A little known secret is that there is a complete DVR system built into Win 7, called Media Center. We do over the air recording of many of the new shows, which the PC can record 4 channels at the same time. After a few months we’ll check the pilot out and if ok we’ll continue watching. Other wise we’ll just delete the whole series. The laptop has a 750 GB drive and I also store the files to a 1TB NAS. We almost never watching anything live except the news.

Another cool feature is any of the other Win 7 PCs can watch live TV or watch any of the recorded shows. Of course, in their infinite wisdom Microsoft decided to rip out this DVR system in Win 10. Hence I won’t be upgrading for a looooong time.

I did not know any of all that. Don't think that it would have made any difference, though. Never got into using a DVR system. I wish I could cut TV cable and save some money. I feel we spend too much money for the privilege of watching a few networks. Everytime I research an alternate solution, I get dissapointed.

We have this over the air system, Netflix and Amazon Prime. More tv than we can ever need at half the cable cost.
