It was invented in 1949 by Herta Heuwer, who began selling it at a food stand in West Berlin. The Deutsches Currywurst Museum estimated that 800 million currywursts are eaten every year in Germany, with 70 million in Berlin alone.

My favorite Curry Wurst is still at the Lister Turm Biergarten in Hannover. It could just be that I am always in excellent company when I visit there. Or, maybe the Bier. It’s still one of my favorite Biergartens that I’ve visited.

Looks like a nice place.

It is. It’s in a very large wooded area where you can feel the temperature drop by a good 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit when entering. This is a wonderful thing in the summer.

Because I have friends there, and it’s rare that I have the opportunity to visit, there are usually 8-12 of us enjoying Bier and Curry Wurst. The only other thing on the menu is French Fries. Beauty in simplicity.

Rather than find some..... I made some. Found a recipe and made us some Currywurst. Didn't have fries so we went with Tater Tots. And some asparagus for color. Definitely Street Food. May have to make it again.
