Covid + Hands + Guitar = PIA

I can't be the only one with this issue. My hands get dry, cracked, and sore from hard work...the winter contributes even more. And now with covid, I constantly add hand sanitizer.

Needles to say my hands are shot. The one thing that makes my hands feel nice again is O'Keeffe's .

This stuff ------> OKEEFfE.jpg

The problem is, after i use it, I can't slide my hand down the neck of a guitar.....or use a pool stick. it's almost like i have wax on.
Now I have to wait until I go to bed to apply it, just so I can enjoy guitar and pool. But, my hands suffer all day. I've tried a few other cures, but so far they don't help my hands or the sticky situation. I don't want to spend $10 at a clip to find what i need.

Does anyone have a cure?

You might be using too much. Try only applying to the most visible irritation and only just enough. I've used Gold Bond Healing for years. I'm in the same boat as you. Once the temp goes below 40, here comes cracked, dry hands and fingers.

MY ONLY CURE is WARM CLIMATE NO SNOW or HANDS IN WET stuff like Tile Thinset, MUD, SPAckle, Dish liquid etc.

I use Bag Balm. Maryland/PA winters are agonizing on my fingers.

lack of moisture is NEVER an issue here.......... no really --- its damp 365 days a year..... if your "dried out" here....you have a serious medical condition ambient indoor humidity is 50/60% WITH THE A/C on !

outside there are 99% humidity days .......... yes......but its not raining its just THAT HUMID

conversely -- we have serious MOLD issues (stuff grows on EVERYTHING!) --- so win some//////lose some --

I tried. even just one small drop is like fly paper against the guitar neck.

As for Gold Bond.....That stuff is like Gold. I used GB powder for years in my shoes and, um, yea, the Grundle Area. Can I say that? I guess I can, I just did!! :)
I didn't see anything they had for hands...but they must. It's a good place to start.

Though its, well, almost autumn here, in winter I get the same problem. The pharmacist put me onto a moisturizing type cream called Dermeze that works very well & as only a very little is needed it absorbs into the skin very quickly, leaves no greasy residue or anything. If you can find that in the USA it'd be worth trying. Cheers

When I use to work, dried and cracked skin around the fingertips was a major problem. Tried different stuff over the years. Amlactin (ammonium lactate) was by far the best stuff that worked for me. It's pretty gnarly, so be careful... Don't get it in your eyes or on your genitals. If you're pregnant, talk to a doctor first. It's about double the price of the Gold Bond stuff!

Carling O'Keefe was a brewing company in Canada that is now part of Molson Coors. The company's origins can be traced to Canadian Breweries, which bought the Carling Brewery in 1930 and the O'Keefe Brewery in 1934. Canadian Breweries purchased numerous other brewers – some to shut down, and some solely for their brands. In 1969, Canadian Breweries was acquired by a subsidiary of Rothmans, which renamed the company as Carling O'Keefe in 1973. The company was sold in 1987, then merged with Molson in 1989.
