Covers that just kick ass

It's really amusing that people now idolize 100% Gay bands like Judas Priest.
Only a few years ago, Gay people were considered the undesirable outcasts of society.
I suppose that time heals all wounds.

I've performed with Gays, Satanists, Agnostics, and just about every other group you can name and worked happily with all of them...

Listening to the recent 45th anniversary edition of KISS' Destroyer on spotify and reading a little about it on wikipedia, I came across the fact that "King of The Night Time World" is not an original... but not exactly a cover, either. Let me explain...

Kim Fowler (known among other things for putting together and managing The Runaways) had written and recorded it originally with his glam band "The Hollywood Stars" in a somewhat different version. He then offered it to the record's producer Bob Ezrin to include in Destroyer, which was seriously lacking in material, initially. They rewrote some parts and lyrics, polished the structure and the melody, and turned it into the "King of The Night Time World" that we know today.

This was pretty much the same thing that Desmond Child (who has also cowritten material with Paul Stanley) did almost a decade later when he rewrote his "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)" (recorded by Bonnie Tyler) and turned it into "You Give Love a Bad Name". Yes, THAT one...

In both cases, though not really covers, I think the rewritten material ended up better than the original. Here they are:

I may have posted in the previous pages or not, but in my memory of covers, I think of VH as doing numerous covers, but my favorite was You Really Got Me. I thought it was their song, but years later heard another version on the radio that sounded "off" I thought it was a spoof. It turned out it was the Kinks version.

And yup, I did post about this a few pages back.

I agree, Chili! VH's cover is much more to my liking, just as much as their "Pretty Woman" vs. Roy Orbison's.
