Covers that just kick ass

I did hear it, Robert... And I really like it. But I wonder... Is it his, though?... Is it? To quote INXS' Devil Inside: "Makes you wonder... wonder, wonder..."
I see a couple of filtertron-like pups, tuneomatic bridge and a Bigsby. The whole guitar looks completely boutique, LP shape and the headstock weirdly familiar but cannot quite place it...

G, you and I sure think alike. I was not thinking of Tool, but I did think of Zep.

When Van Halen first came out, I was only about 13. I knew very little about historical R n R bands such as the Kinks.
BUT true story here, I dug VH's You Really Got Me. and for years and years I loved that song.

So, I thought this had to be some kind of spoof when I heard it on 98 Rock ( gball and donO may remember that station)
I still to this day think the Kinks version sounds kind of dorky compared to VH's Hot rodded version.

Vs. This:

Heck, I don’t remember if I even had an FM radio in my cars back then. But I did have about 100 8 track tapes and a kick ass player with Jensen 6x9 triaxials !

I grew up listening to Mom and Dad's record collection from the 1920's/1940's/1950's/1960's.

About 1975, I discovered Black Sabbath. Shortly after that, AC/DC, then Triumph, Nazareth, Scorpions, Judas Priest, early Def Leppard and Mountain.

Zeppelin never grabbed me sonically and neither did Van Halen. I never really listened to either one (other than seeing their vids on MTV) until 2016/2017 when our band started covering their songs.

Motorhead blew my mind in 1980. I became a high gain junkie. If a song didn't have heavy guitar, I would change the channel or pop in a cassette.

It's really amusing that people now idolize 100% Gay bands like Judas Priest.
Only a few years ago, Gay people were considered the undesirable outcasts of society.
I suppose that time heals all wounds.

I don't think my friends and I were ever in the dark about Halford's sexuality. There may have been some people that were, but it seemed like the worst-kept "secret" in Rock/Metal at the time that they were at the zenith of their popularity. I mean, he was dropping some not-so-subtle hints in the music as early as Sin After Sin (Raw Deal is a pretty graphic depiction of a trip to a gay leather bar, after all). We just didn't care: they rocked and that was all that was needed. I suspect most true Priest fans were well aware just like I was - it's not like I had special gaydar...he sang about it, and they had that look - and he was wholeheartedly embraced by the fans when he finally came out.
