I also grew up with Country Music and the beginnings of Rock And Roll.
Merle Haggard? Oh yeah.
I'm in the process of buying myself a new PC and then I'll be able to share with you a cover recording of Ponch and Lefty as recorded by two Texan friends who had contributed the song to a compilation CD (2008) that I had compiled and produced for members of a now defunct recording website.

In the band I used to be in we did have some country tunes, but they were all modern country. Most of the time we'd start off a show with Here for the Party by Gretchen Wilson. That was a fun song to play. The main riff requires the guitar to be in drop D. I created my own solo for that song, but the solo had more of a rock feel than a country feel.

Another one of the modern country songs we did was Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood. That is what I call, "A Pissed-Off Girlfriend Song." The ladies used to jump to their feet (if they weren't already on their feet!) and sing along quite enthusiastically to that one!

We had quite a varied set list. We'd do modern country, Motown, R&B, funk, classic rock, modern pop, and a hair metal song or two. We even did some go-go.

I suppose the most "classic" style country song we did was Five O'Clock Somewhere.

I will listen if someone else is playing it. I play Margaritaville Radio almost exclusively and when they aren’t doing a Jimmy Buffet song many time you get a bit of country. I don’t change channels. But to play country on purpose. Not my thing.

Now my Mom, well its Patsy Cline.
Finally! Thank you, Johnnygoo! I'm known as Sargeant Preston here at TTR.

My mom named me Randolph Preston Cline.
My first name was in remembrance of a young friend to my dad that tragically died at the age of 15 due to an automobile accident.

Middle name is Preston because my mom was a fan of Sargeant Preston of The Yukon.

Last name is Cline.

According to family lore, my grandfather was repudutily a cousin of Patsy Cline, all of which means it's highly possible that I'm a distant cousin.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
