Could This Be Made Hard Rock???

Well…… if Dolly can take an REO Speedwagon song and turn it country, betting this song can get kicked up a notch. You thinking of you being the guy to do it?

Virtually an pop song could be reworked as a hard rock song - the basic song structures are essentially the same. But, taken seriously? Eye of the beholder I think but the subject matter here doesn't seem to lend itself immediately to a hard rock interpretation, at least from one listen-through of the video you posted. Sure I guess hard rock wades into teen angst subject matter, but I'd say its usually with a much more cynical point of view than this tune has.

Don't know why but I found it interesting they are playing this in Eb. Are they tuned down a half step? Is it for the background instruments (although those sound like samples)? Is it just for the singer?

That's my reaction to Geddy Lee singing.
His current voice is pretty rough, much like Roger Daltry's voice has been shot.

But, how was Geddy in his prime? Was he much different than Halford or Bon Scott or Brian Johnson, etc? Still a shrieky style as many lead singers are, but to me it suited the music perfectly. Of course my tastes are not that of Robert's, nor Sp8ctre, Session, Froman, Ramo, Gball, 67,, Leeds, Clock, etc. That is why there are millions of albums sold to the diverse listeners throughout the globe. That is also why we have debates over which singer or versions of bands like Sabbath Dio vs Ozzy, Yes, Maiden Paul D'ano vs Dickinson,

Now, if we talk Coverdale, Dio, Lou Gramm, Layne Staley, Glenn Hughes or Bruce Dickinson, those are but a few of Rock's top voices ever.
