I raced MX too, IBlive. but not until I was mid 30's. I know all those guys you mentioned

Some of the most fun I ever had on two wheels. Wasn’t fast. Pretty much a back marker. My best race (for me) was racing with 3 other guys as bad as I was. I started race behind them and by end of races passed all three for position.

Yep, that's what racing is all about
Like you my most enjoyable races were mid field dicing for a place that didn't pay prize money.
I've led a "few" races from flag to flag and and didn't enjoy them, pressure to hold position :-(
