Continued from Gasket's ES335 thread. All manner of motor racing talk.

The Dunlops are the Popular favorites.--- but Guy Martin is a lot of fun to follow as well.
JOhn McGuinness is my personal favorite

I did some motocross as a 19 year old kid. So I followed guys like Roger Decoster. Bob Hannah. That age bracket racers. My only claim to fame and name dropper would be Mark Barnett. Little local track in Western Illinois. When he was a no name amateur rider, he ran at one of the tracks I was racing. Dude was stupid fast even as a 13 year old. Shortly after turning 16 and going pro, he was winning national championships.

Most recently I was glad I got to see the likes of Nicky Hayden before he died, Also Matt Mladen, Ben Spies, Ben and Eric Bostrom, and Miguel DuHamel

Not going to start name dropping but back in the 70's the shop I worked for was a hub for road racers. All levels from clubmen to internationals would hang about and talk. They were always trying to sneak a look at whatever we had covered in the race stands.
Sunday evenings after Sydney meetings Mrs Gasket would get food and drink on the go at our house, the place would fill with with the racing community who all smelt of methanol, good times!

Well, Gasket, I think Burt likely did a bit of racing down there in NZ, don't ya think?

You're probably are spot on.
Sorry my comment was directed at what he was best known for.
A number of my associates have taken tar race bikes, fitted small rear sprockets and run record attempts.
No disrespect intended, I just don't call it racing. I guess they race the clock?

Similarly, I don't call track day riders racers. They lap with instructors and are told to not pass on the inside etc. Racing is taking your place on the grid with 10 or so laps do your best, if you don't crash regularly you are riding around not racing, you have to be on the edge!

This is seriously insane but wow what a rush...

Back in the 80's I was working on a pit crew for speedway motorcycle racing legend Keith "Snakeman" Larson
These bikes had only one gear, ran on nitro methane, had no brakes and went from 0 to 60 MPH in 2.5 seconds. They "slowed down" going into the corners by giving the bike full throttle and doing a power slide through the corner lleaning the bike over on it's side squirting dirt! Letting off of the throttle to get traction on the straight away.
