I
thought....
I have made it VERY -- obviously-- unanimously BRIGHT AND CLEAR on this very forum and MANY others-- I
HATE SOLDERING--with a RED HOT PASSION --even (see what I did there???)

SOMETIMES WHEN A MAN REACHES A CERTAIN AGE YOU JUST HAVE TO ADMIT-----when you CANT do things very well....... I cant do brain surgery--- I cant win the lottery -- i cant STAND Celine Dion-----I cant go ABOVE the Fl. Ga. line-----I cant solder for $hit..

HOWEVER-- against all logic and reason (HA--consider the sources involved) ROBERT Q. HERNDON ESQ> --MBA --BDB-- PDQ-- BSA--OTC--TTR --AAGD--and all around maniac---
created some SUPER MEGA PICKUP -- with reverse gears dodeckaphonic magnets--and a turbo charger --- and PINK wax.....nice touch BTW...... ;)

AND sent it --- to ---the ONE swinging sausage on TTR that HATES TO "F"'ing SOLDER!!!
-- Well played Bobby---

This is-- of course the Petie Green twisted reverse magno compass slug fest creme bean that has been discussed on this forum for a week or 3 -----------has it been three-- perhaps 4---I was asleep much of it--

and well-----DAMN IT -- its FRIDAY and I didnt have sh*t to do!

So --- I fired up the Soldering iron --- grabbed a few cold adult beverages-- cued the MUSIC and.....................

SHAZAM!
chibson P.G. mod.jpg

I am REALLY liking the completely new color pallet to the tone --- wow-- its got way more width if that make sense--????--- and the pick harmonics are effortless--- like on a SHredder (my Dean--Ibanez--etc) not always so easy on a Lester (for me anyway) --- its a totally different beastie----

I guess the few minutes of PAIN are worth the pleasure in this case ----

Thank you Robert---- that pup is the BEES Knees----

now -- exactly WTF did you do to it????

I wasnt really paying attention before (you'll find I do that a lot) sorry character flaw ;)

DUDE!!!!

I am so pleased that you like it and it's just another reason why TTR Tone Freaks make the very best friends. So this pickup has a history. Back around 2002, I discovered GFS pickups. At that time, I scored a couple of these cream/cream, double-slug humbuckers, both putting out around 15.kΩ. I used them in a few different guitars over the years and then they laid in the bottom of a box of guitar parts for over 10 years.

Recently, when I discovered how great the Peter Green Mod sounded with high gain levels, I immediately thought of 80's metal fan Adrian. I removed the baseplate, rotated the magnet 180°, added pink birthday candle potting wax to the baseplate, magnet and spacers for added insurance (the coils were nicely potted already) and verified a polarity shift with a compass. The pickup spec'd out at 15.88kΩ @ 78°F.

So, that's really all there is to it!!!!!

"confessions of an anti- soldertition"
Amusing title and post.
I told Mrs Gasket what Adrian said, she's familiar with his practice of posting photos of himself rubbing on other peoples guitars. She came back with "I'd like to see him rub his junk on his soldering iron".
Haaa haaa haaa!

I MUST say-----------of course me being me --- and an INTERNATIONAL JUNK STAR--- I had to test this new pup Against the 2 guitars I have in the stable that have an "out of phase switch"

now folks-- this is SOME competition....

we have a SUB 200.00 2015 CHIBO w/ a free Robert HErndon Guitar Scientist Mad Lab pup
VS
a BONE stock set of competitors from he SEVENTIES ---
GIBSON -- HEAVY WEIGHT Les Paul Recording guitar-----(seriously its like 13 damn lbs)
and the svelt (at 11.3 lbs) PEAVEY T-60!!!!!!!

---so a round robin run with the Mesa set at the same spot -- no touching the amp---really the only WINNER ehre is ME! (muwahahaha)

no really-- to be far--

the CHIBSON sounds DYNAMITE--- it dpoesnt NAIL the exact Pete Green-- BUT-- its HOTTER and ballsier-- and well -- I like it--

The OOP switches on the other 2 beasties DO bring the TRUE PEter green closer to home -- and well -- uhm the Recording guitar ....uhm....just ....er well KILLS both of them -- but -- I mean COME ON its not fair then really is IT? no--

so

for a SUB 200.00 guitar with a free pup -- all things considered--- and the FLIPPED pup here is in the BRIDGE -- not the neck (I think PEte did the NECK eh?)

WOW! -- just WOW---

oh by the way -- thanks BOBBY for making me SOLDER!

Did you send him a crayon as well?

Nothing makes me happier than helping someone out and I especially love seeing one of my guitars - or pieces of gear - being used and enjoyed.... :-)

@eSGEe - Regarding the Peter Green Modification....he only flipped the neck pickup , as you correctly posted, but since the effect only takes place in the middle position, the modification can be performed to either pickup with identical results. I chose the bridge because I have several....

Hmmm...I think I have a flipped 496R...

Now, let me ask you all something....remember how nasal and "chainsawy" Randy Rhoads sounded on Flying High Again and Over The Mountain???? Notice how he never sounded quite like that on and of his other songs???

Could he have been flipped on one of his guitars???

Well-- that would be much appreciated -- others have tried--- I did manage to get the pup in the Chibson with ONLY 1 lost tension spring--- two screws being fished off the floor---- and the dog knocking the soldering on the carpet---once--- so for me it was a "win" :)

I have unsteady hands---- little to ZERO patience--- and increasingly bad eyesight--I have 1 near sighted one far sighted and as they decline in quality close up small things----- just arent really my "thing"---- all these things plus 175 animals running lose in my house--- makes focusing and soldering damn near impossible----- perhaps a travel solder kit--- -I can go to the park and solder on a picnic table in peace and harmony ----------

YOU are not making this most HEINOUS act easy to avoid are you????

Hack and Drummoid -- both very accomplished Solder Technicians -- WIZARDS really-- have tried to guide lead and tutor me--

its just not my bag man

That's why I sent you a 2 conductor pickup....

Now, I have been asked if I can dupe the same out of phase tone on a single coil. That would require me to push out all the pole pieces and reverse their positions, No??? And if it can be accomplished with just reversing the wiring polarities, where would the effect be present in terms of switch positions????
