Confessions of a gear mod whore

I apologize for my callous oversight, Ray.
I'll get some pics tomorrow of the dummy coil mount. Just used an old Strat pickup with the slugs, but no magnets, and mounted it in the empty neck pickup route.
The new pick guard hides everything.
Very convenient and foolproof. No switches, passive and always hum canceling.
So no magnet is necessary for a hum cancelling coil? And aren't the pole pieces magnitized on a strat pickup, or did you use the base plate type?

Also, what did you use to cut the PG?

No magnet is needed, I just pop the magnet off the bottom of a cheapo ceramic singlecoil.
The slugs are not magnetized on these cheapos.
Either type of these will work. The ones with the two magnets seem easier to rip apart.

The hum canceling is polarity sensitive. Without the magnets that just means flipping the wires to get reverse wind on the dummy coil.
Bucks hum one way, does nothing the other way.
The dummy coil can't "pickup" the string without the magnet, it just cancles the hum.
Pure witchcraft & black magic. Voodoo even.

The Pickguard was drawn off of the old one. Cut on a bench mounted scroll saw and beveled on a beltsander.
It's great fun having all the bits of plastic sticking to sweaty arms as you get the bevel even.
I'll get some better pics tomorrow in the daylight.

Thank you. I feel whole again!

Cheap or not, the one on the right is fundamentally very much like a P-90 in that it is built with pole pieces flanked by two bar magnets.

Interesting...

The Black Magic and voodoo created deep in the swamps at Hackmasters lair are things of epic fascination and amazement.

ANd they sound good too!

All most enough to entice me to move back to the Land of Gators and Humidity.

If anyone wasn't quite digging how this dummy coil thing is connected...

The round thing in the middle is the virtual volume pot.

That's pretty much it.

Hack, we, your devoted followers, demand even more gear mod confessions! CONFESS!!!

He must confess that he likes GOLD and if he doesn't I would find it VEERD!:D

;>)/
OK, I confess, I confess. I like GOLD!
I've always loved gold. The golder the better.
Always wanted a gold 77 Trans Am.
It's a secret obsession of mine.

My golden desires in life won't be complete until I get a beautiful golden SG.

The Trans Am can come later.

Refinishing one wouldn't be the same. It must be born as a golden child.
So I wait, and ponder upon "what if"...
