Well, tonight I really played the new Les Paul. As expected, I encountered heavy static when I rubbed my hand across the plastic cavity and switch covers. I think we can chalk this up to static electricity, considering this guitar has been in the case (and taped up in the Gibson box) since 10/02/2015. However, I was shocked to discover this 2016 Les Paul displayed the exact same "grounding issues" that plagued my 2003 Gibson SG Standard, my 2016 Gibson SG T Series, and my 2016 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute. I went through all the usual things you do when you encounter this problem - move to other outlets/rooms, swap out cables and switch guitars and amplifiers.
The short version is, the 2016 Les Paul Studio made the same noise no matter what I changed and the Von Herndon Double Neck, when used through exactly the same equipment, had zero noise of any kind.
I decided not to rant and rave this time, as nothing will be solved by doing so. I simply created a video so you guys (and gals) can judge for yourself. It's a bit lengthy, and I had to trim off the ending, but I think you will enjoy it.
I invite your comments and opinions...Fast forward to 9:00 for a Tone Wood Demonstration....
