So boys and girls. After the homemade pizza for Christmas Eve dinner tonight fare was grilled steak. Roasted veggies. Homemade bread. Nice red wine from the New York Finger Lakes. Our favorite winery from the region. Lamoreuax Landing.

Seasoning was just salt and pepper on the veggies and the rub for the steak was approximately equal parts salt, ground pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and a very small pinch of red pepper.

Cheese on the bottom really gives a whole different flavor, even using the exact same ingredients.
Not sure whether it's the cheese interacting directly with the crust, or the order in which the tastes hit your tongue. Or both.
Whatever the reason, it's a great variation.

We cheated as FIL sent us a honeybaked ham, and we actually got 2 catered dishes from the local Italian deli.
But, I helped with the kitchen grunt work with the rest as usual.

It is a place where I wash dishes and clean up some of the time, as we both work full time.
It is a space in my home that was REALLY ghetto (the original run down 1972 cabinets) that I renovated last Jan.
It is the space where my wife and I cook together when we can, as part of making quality time together.
I really dig it.

I'm not finished; I will be installing new flooring and the cabinet toe kicks this Jan. I was supposed to do it with the cabinets but just didn't get there.
The door at the far end is the entry to my basement guitar lair.....

Very nice renovation! I do renovations on all parts of the house for my wife.

However she is retired and I'm working full time on my second retirement...

...so The Kitchen is a place I see little of. My wife takes good care of me and
never expects me to do anything in that particular room. I am not fond of
cooking and the cleaning up afterwards is my worst nightmare!

Now the vacuuming and carpet cleaning and laundry are not so off limits
nor is any of the yard work and such things.
