been a brutal year for us. Thought we would be out of here & retired. Anyways. The Mrs & I struck a deal. a few minutes ago...usually low key at Christmas..take care of family, Work while everybody else is off.

We agreed she could pick out whatever in jewelry & i can match in guitars in value. So whats my strategy tomorrow ?

I too thought I would be retired by now--- the real estate "crash" destroyed that--- hope your situation is better-----Im still digging out 11 years later-------
it's weird..it more health driven cause of some procedures. she has to go through....I just built my Company up to sell...and kinda like it...got the juice back to be aggressive & did hire this year...could expand another territory if i got another run in me....Going to have to work it out with buyer( tech who has been with me since the beginning) maybe give him 10k or something to hold off another year.. He was hoping for Jan 1st,..so was I)

oh man year of 2008..they ruined everything..lost my project manager job of years ....had to wait table at 3 restaurants...then found roadside assistance...took 7 months until i saw the angle on the horrible AAA & roadside assistance provider(who would want an insurance company as a middle man to have an emergency service) if you knew how they screw the actual people doing the work...they never pay a full bill ever !! i built this company on these principals
1) tell the truth
2) Accurate ETA's
3)Tech's with manners
4) serve first the money will follow

Cheap earrings for her & a couple of sets of strings for you.
See, I just saved you a couple grand.

If she goes for the big ice, I see a Les Paul Custom in your future...
with what she is looking at over there on phone...looks like i am up to 3 guitars...she got the ring & ear rings--necklace. already....hey..we just figured out..my guitars & amps are not even close to her jewelry value..there is some injustice here..lol.....just kidding....we live so basic...restored a house from 1890's...small but cozy..live in a little old fashioned town & my neighbors tolerate the music..

my gear money came from the sale of my harley..when i almost got creamed a few years ago & my sister did get hit..time to stop..i cant even go on a ride anyways cause of phone ringing...so away it went....taking care of her for 3 years has been the main thing...she has fallen last 4 days since procedure...we can't lay any voacls down..she not balanced too good right now. You can tell on the last 8 songs...basically just getting em done...she had a good day on Superficial..you can tell the dif when she is feeling semi normal. she belts em out

Yup, the crash of 2009 cost me a lot. While trying to dig out of a hole earlier this year, I fell in an even bigger sink hole. Now I'm digging laterally to avoid water pocket and keep from drowning.

09 got me as well. Turned into one of the many long term out of work folk. Still wouldn’t have been able to retire till about the same time (hopefully this time next year)..... just would have had more in my 401 and a better shot at comfortable. Fortunately my better half with her MS in teaching and a bazzilion years doing it, I think we may be able to survive.

Regarding this thread. Couple years ago I bought myself a MIM Strat from Sweetwater. Told everyone that was my birthday/Christmas present for a couple years. I was happy.

Last 2 years I bought myself a LP Traditional each year.
(combined Christmas/ birthday)
So I am covered, just hope that work will pick up a little bit to finish digging out of my hole.
Caused by lack of work and my boss being down with pneumonia for a full month, he’s doing well now so hope it all continues to work out.
Cheers

We lost our house to foreclosure in the crash, but California law is such that I didn't have to pay back any of the loan after the crash. We built up our finances for
two years and then bought another house when the market was completely tanked. All in all it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I'd say we lost around $150K.

I just closed on my house in Florida Friday after so many nightmares. If I told you all the $hit that happened you wouldn't believe me...the contractor we hired after
the 2018 hurricane is in prison right now. That should give you a hint...

Not at all surprised.
Fla. contractors have a well founded reputation for crap work & disappearing with funds.
AC contractors seem to be the ultimate sinners. Next roofing contractors.
