cheap vs $$$$$$$$$$$

This thread started with $295 guitar V $7,000 guitar, this coming week I'll go a step further :-)
My wife and I each have a Taylor, both up in the silly price area. Late yesterday when out walking my dog we came across a garage sale, on the footpath with other old stuff was a nylon string acoustic. I asked the seller how much, he said "Too late in the day worry, it's now free". Tomorrow I'll have to buy a bridge and a set of strings, give it a cleanup and it'll be time to convince myself it sounds amazing, haaa haaa.

I checked out an estate sale two friends that passed on around 25 guitars and basses the good ones were never put up for sale like 1950'S Gibson's
When I was their I checked out the vintage guitar price guide my 1958 Gibson flying Vee was $275K to $375k I paid $15k for it.
I let my sister in law go through my guitar collection she picked out a 1964 Ice Blue Metallic Fender Strat. stock gold hardware and maple neck the price guide said $33k the shop where she
took it in for a string change they offered $35k for it.

FREE! ---- now THERE is some PROFIT!

Well so much for free, I now have big dollars in this thing :-(
Went to my local shop asked for a bridge, they gave me one $0.00 all good.
Then wanted a set of strings, this guitar is now into me for $12, I'm on the way to the poorhouse ;-)
Mrs Gasket is OK for the miles I've put on her but the $12 guitar has seen better days.

There are many excellent guitars at many pricepoints. You can get a brilliant guitar for a few hundred $. I also reckon that once you're getting above a few thousand $ that we're into the world of decreasing returns or investments.

Generally, I feel that the $700 to $1500 is where I feel most comfortable - but there are plenty of stinkers in that price range which are beaten by $400 guitars, imho.

I think he was trying to chop down that tree with his axe guitar.
