cheap vs $$$$$$$$$$$

YOu did well Mr Brown :)

Im not saying there is a right and a wrong

I am saying
in THAT video-- I dont hear over 6k worth of BETTER from the Martin-- I just dont--will the Martin be a keepsake-- will it appreciate in value and my great grand kids be able to buy a house with the sale -- maybe
will the ORangewood ever be worth more than 250.00 (no) it will only depreciate---

Would I play the martin in a skeevy club filled with drunken sailors and cigarette smoke -- NO-
would I take the Orangewood to that place -- no --
I would take a switchblade and a 12 gauge--- but that isnt the point is it----

SOrry -- im just in a mood--- but no one can convince me that Martin is WORTH the difference -- based on the video/audio evidence presented here.......is it better YES-- is it 6 k better--- no

My own personal experience...

Perhaps, but it would still be a logical fallacy to argue the general from this specific. We cannot conclude that all old Kay acoustics are superior to Martins based on one anecdotal experience or one magic guitar. We know from broader experience and repetition that it is not true, so we can count this as an outlier. The point being that a handful of magic inexpensive guitars aside you still get what you pay for out to a statistically insignificant degree.

True, I can only say that in 4 racks of sponsorship Martin's, this was the guitar that was constantly in use.

I seldom play acoustic, but I do like the timbre of a nice one when it has that just-right tone. I wrote this short instrumental piece in 1984 as both a tribute to Randy Rhoads and a musical answer to his short acoustic work 'Dee.' I finally recorded it in 1998 on a 1975 Hohner 400 N Acoustic and mic'd with a vintage Versadyne PE-57 microphone into a Centaur console and then into a Fostex 250. This is a digital copy of that 4 track recording. I really like the way the guitar sounds on this piece:

I have only 3 the best is a 1992 Larrivee then a US made Ovation 12 string then a 6 string China made Ovation. The Larrivee kill's most high end guitars it's a BC. made before they moved to CA.

For an acoustic I must say price usually dictates quality.

I had a $3500 Martin and it was a fantastic player. So easy to fret and it sounded so nice.

I sold it because I don't really do acoustic. I bought an old Yamaha Red Label first and it was not easy to play or set up.

Then I bought a fairly nice $400 Alvarez and it's even worse. It's a wall hanger and I never touch it...

With you completely. I've been toying with buying a nice(er) acoustic for a while now. I have a mid-range Yamaha and it actually plays nice but the sound is very one-dimensional. I've gone to the shops and at this point probably played a couple hundred different acoustics and all that I have learned is that nothing under about $2k is even worth the time of day, and it's hard to justify that expense on something I will play so infrequently.

Adrian, I have one that might be close give or take a thousand or 2. Although it is an old school Recording King Acoustic Archtop made by Gibson in the 1930's.

I must clarify that since it is not a true acoustic, you may disqualify it as it sounds best plugged in.

Well--- I dont really qualify that -- as I dont Qualify my Harmony as an Acoustic either......(it was no where near 7k.......not even 700)
BUt it sounds and plays awfully nice
