Champ?

I prefer to play thru the Traynor.... but man. 20w into a 12” is loud inside the house. Not as much when I’ve used it at church. 5w into an 8” is way more manageable at bedroom levels.

It's a signature A5. Perfect speaker for these if you ever need a replacement.
I do enjoy my Greta! :)

I have a Custom Made Champ clone that's really nice and has some sweet extras built in.

Mine has;
What you get:
  • Class A single ended tube Head with custom curly maple accent
  • NOS 6sj7 pre tube
  • jj 6v6 power tube
  • jj 5y3 rectifier tube

Mine has a circuit switch that allows you to run a 6L6 at 10 watts...

I do indeeeedy! Champs before Tramps!!! I've liked every Traynor I've played too, even the SS ones which are often left out of the SS discussion. As good as Peavey SS as far as I'm concerned.

You got that right, well said, well said....

BYOC has a champ kit that you can spec for 5 watt or 15 watt.
They say if you go with the 15 watt transformers you can swap between 6V6 and the 6L6 at will.

Hmmm, might be a fun way to burn a day or two and get a new toy.

Champs are fantastic little amps, though at 5 watts, even these can be a little too much for bedroom/ living-room use, like if someone else is trying to watch television or sleep. Here's the 5F1 clone I builtIMG_20200329_104743.jpg
And the volume on these goes to 12IMG_20200329_105125.jpg
How about that Mr Tufnell.
I used a Weber 8A125 alnico speaker & it's fitted with NOS/NIB tubes, a GE CV4027 Mil spec 5Y3WGTB rectifier, a Philips JAN 6V6GT power tube & an RCA grey plate 12AX7. NOS glass really shows its character in these simple single ended designs. This one has a copy of the very early tweed Champ 17k primary OT rather than the common 8k primary. By far my most used amp. Cheers

Its great for really wooly fuzz type tones through a huge cab. I dont have a 412 anymore, but that was my fav way to run it. I have some recordings where I just mic'd the internal speaker to track out a layer or two. Came out surprisingly well. I used to have a few Pawn Shop series amps and guitars, but all I've got left now is the Greta and the reverse Jag bass. There wasn't anything in that entirr line that I wouldn't love to have. Still miss my Supersonic guitar, I regret trading that now....
