Ceramic Vs. Alnico

I read somewhere to space with 3 nickels instead of the common 2.
It’s worth a try.

Yup, it ended up wanted to be a bit lower than the pickups in my other LPs. They had it up at that recommended 1/16" (with the string depressed at the last fret) and turns out it was a bit too high. Going to try it through some other amps when I have the chance, but as of yesterday, it was one of my favorite-sounding pickups for certain.

I used to have fun conversations with Robert on setup measurements. He all ways worked in 64ths. When a pickup height or string height setup spec listed 4/64ths, I’d say I’m using 1/16. He’d give me this weird look. :rolf:

That is funny

Being willing to admit I was wrong, just wanted to say that I was completely wrong about the 498T. I took some time over the weekend to really dial in the height of the 498T in my Studio, and all I can say is, holy hell! It is no mystery why they put these in Customs - what an incredible-sounding pickup, just takes a bit to really get it set up right.

I have the 498T and 490R combo in my Custom. I like it a lot; I've never felt the need to change.

my fav Gibson pickups into high gain, its all over my music with the Studio LP

I've got a set of ceramic humbuckers/split coils in a tele that rock. Very colorful, lots of super tight bottom and definition. If I really put the spurs to it I can back the treble off on my Timmy and she screams with out piercing highs. If they're used right they're bad ass pickups. They have a ballsy p90.vibe.

I've got a couple sitting on the bench if you ever want more ha ha

Thanks for the offer, but I don't think I will be putting them in any guitars, just not removing them from ones they come in. All my others have ceramics of some sort (500Ts, Dirty Fingers, Super Distortions, Tone Zones)
I am going to try to adjust the height on my bridge in the studio and see if I will keep it.
