...but, is it worth the SG in trade? The trad prospect is putting a $1200 trade value on it....

IMHO --- yes.

The Blue is pretty (VERY) but it is at its sole--- "just" an SG .....the Carvin......well --- when was the last time YOU saw one...... a real USA made one?????? EXACTLY.
but the SG's are being made everyday........twice in China......

IMHO the Carvin is cooler --- but --- I buy 30.00 El Degas Basses and poop so what do I know------------

I recently played a Carvin that my good friends Father-In-Law had built by their custom shop. It had the Wilkinson Trem like this one and the Carvin pickups. The thing flat-out ripped as a "shredder" axe (would be ideal if you were doing stuff like Dream Theater). Every Carvin I have played has been extremely well-made and had great playability. They don't seem to hold their value too well, but I can't say if that's a good deal or not. Question is: is it worth it to you? If so, then it's a good deal.

BTW, that one is beautiful!

I have made the mistake of not giving a shredder a chance based on it's looks. It is capable of covering all the rock and blues I want and is a whole lot more comfortable for many guitars that come to mind for that genre. I am very happy that I did not sell my black LAG "shredder" (although the wife is not), which really can alive with the pups RobV gave me.

BUT, I would feel much better of you got a little cash on your end too. Not much, maybe $ 200, or a pedal at least.

Carvin guitars in general are very nice. Carvin guitars is now known as Kiesel Guitars. Carvin amps and the rest of their audio products are now known as Carvin Audio.

No experience with the ST300, but about 10 years ago I got a chance to try a CT6 for a week. A CT6 looks like this, with an amazing amount of options available:

Anyways, the guitar had a very solid and resonant feel to it. Played like magic right off the bat. Sounded great, too. What I wasn't impressed with was inside the control cavity. Mini pots and scraggly wiring. Copper shielding application looked a little rough. Even though it all worked properly, I felt that this area could have been finished better. But that was 10 years ago, and it wasn't a deal breaker if I would have chosen to keep the guitar.

Getting back to the ST300 and trade value...
Unfortunately, as gball stated, Carvins don't hold value as well as many other USA made guitars due to a snobbish cork-sniffing market. IMO, as nice as that ST300 is, $1200 is a tad bit high. $1000 would be fair.

I agree on the price being high. I won't add any cash for sure and an even trade would be my best offer.
The guy has not responded even though he contacted me...maybe on a Memorial Day trip or he lost interest???

Well, the trade is on...sometime this week. The guy is moving and has been busy, but got back to me this morning.

My goal is to have no more than one of any model from the same maker. Of course body style wise there will be many Les Paul shapes...

I luved the carvins I had and regret getting rid of them. I get another carvin in a heartbeat. But, with that said, the biggest downfall with carvins I've experienced is there trade in value as say Guitar Center and similar. They wouldn't offer me beans for trade in value (way less than norm) and actually said they couldn't on carvins, and suggested I keep mine, and apologized. Other than that in my humble opinion carvins are great guitars and I just soon have a carvin as a fender or gibson (and I like those too).

Thanks! We'll see how deep the beauty runs when she's in hand...

My very first guitar upon starting back into the game was a shredder. It was a Schecter Blackjack SLS C-1 with Sustainiac Active Pups. I really liked it, but it had electrical issues and when I returned it there were no more in stock. So I settled for a different model that didn't thrill me which started my move away from shredder guitars....

Maybe this one will get me going again???
