I decided to do a small comparison between the two cabs recently acquired.

My mic placement skills are for lack of a better word. sucky.

Tell me what you guys hear. Later I’ll tell you what I hear live.
Also, I am playing through the 5150 blue channel. Boosted by a TS9.

Don’t worry about getting right in there with the mic….just set your preamp gain appropriately.
The Randall sounds like it could be good for chugging… :dood:

The Carvin is very reminiscent of a T-75 sound to my ears, which is a great mid focused and rounded sound. The Randall, despite being darker actually was a slightly more articulate in the high notes which is kinda strange but in a cool way. Almost a scooped sound.

Teaming them together makes even more sense to me now after hearing this, since you have 2 different voices. For whatever that's worth, I liked both!

What @Clockworkmike said is absolutely clear and spot on.
Putting both cabs together, would really rock..

Sounds good, I agree with what has been said, Still on the other hand, I would like to hear the PPC 412-2 mmm Orange sweetness..:D

You've mentioned your mic placement skills a couple times, I'm no Bob Rock or anything but I might maybe suggest moving them inwards towards the cap. I like to mic mine up so that the mic's diaphragm is about 50/50 over the cone and cap. There are no rules however, so feel free to disregard anything I just said.

Both sound pretty good, both got their own thing going on

I’ve done that and it sounds way too harsh compared to what I’m actually hearing.

I didn’t go through the entire range of channels. I figure, the blue channel is mainly where I live so that’s what I’ll try to capture.

I’m using my Fender E std.
the mic on the Carvin is a Digital Reference. Not the best, but it’s what I have. The Randall has the SM57.
Both about 2 inches away from the grill.

Also. I couldn’t figure out why it sounded so different.
I think my grandson was at it again.
This time with my 10band EQ. I guess he wants to be a sound guy when he grows up.
I just noticed this now while I was writing this post.
So here it is with my grandson’s EQ skills.
