I have an opportunity to buy a Carvin 212 vertical slant cab and a 5150iii 50w stealth.

The deal for the head alone is too good to pass up. So it isn’t a question of should I buy it.

I couldn’t find any info on the cab and was wondering if anyone knows what kind of speakers are inside?

Most likely it's Carvin's own speaker and for amps they are known to be bottom dwellers. I'd run and save your money.

Correct , they are likely Carvins version of the vintage 30.
That's what mine had. It's a good solid closed back cab with ohm switch. I think 8 ohm speakers with a 16/4 ohm switch and extension jack.

I would buy another one if I could.

If the 2X12 is old school, solid, construction…actual wood, as opposed to wood dust…I would take it as a possible project piece, assess the speakers as equipped, and decide from there. A well built, actual wood, cab might turn out to be a really cool thing.

Mine is older , it has the expanded metal grill. It would be cool with wheat grill cloth.
 
What I really wanted was a 5150iii amp in ivory with matching 212 cab.
The stealth is basically the same thing in black. I’m getting it for nearly half price.
The Carvin is just extra.I could always trade it in for the matching EVH if I don’t like it, or make it a project as suggested.
I should have it at the beginning of the year.

Look around and you can find some EV TL806 cabinets.
These are used for stage monitors and you can buy them quite reasonable.



I would not buy anything made by Crate.
The 5150 iii is a really good sounding amp...(when it's working right)
but it will enilate those crate speakers in one hour, the speakers will melt.

Spend money on good stuff forget Crate.

Since I am getting the 212 for free anyway, I really have nothing to lose.
