Car Batteries are dying on me MAN!

factor in the Misses doesnt drive or leave the house much at all so all "acquisitions" for the property-- (store runs-- feed mill runs-- dead hooker runs--)
I drive to get all sales from the property as well I drive to deliver -- trees...eggs.... mulberries... puppies.... kids (goat ones not human ......hhmmm) chickens etc etc

My second hobby of choice is motorcycling -- -that involves -- GOING -- miles -- on the road -- OUT --
3rd hobby of choice scuba diving -- again cant do that at home---GOING--- OUT
its what I do its what I have always done -- its what my father and grandfathers all did (all traveling sales men) if I am HOME for a full 24 hours .....Im sick ........or dead ...either way I aint HAPPY about it

I did an 11 state long haul fly in to Montana and drive back alone..... for the company to save us $ and retrieve a new exteneded trailer/truck custom piece of equipment....(that Im technically not even LICESNED to OPERATE --- ssshhhhhhh---) ....I DRIVE man ... a LOT -- Im more comfortable at SPEED sitting steel makes me pissy and jumpy and hostile.....

Me too, but the difference is virtually everything I need in the World is within a 1-mile radius, and what isn't can be gotten to on the trolley or delivered to me. My old hobbies that caused me to drive to do them (Skateboarding and Mountain Biking) are things of the past after I had to have hernia surgery, so its guitars (in the house) and the gym (down the elevator).

Technically I don't need the car at all because I really only use it to go to my Brother-In-Law's house and we could take a Lyft but my wife doesn't want us to be carless in case of some unnamed emergency.

I think that's the wife's "emergency." We have to get to our place in Big Bear a few times a year and she doesn't want to have to rent a car to do it. I also like to go out to Palm Springs a few times a year, so there's that too.

Check the tension of the alternator belt.
Check the water level in the battery.
Look for corrosion on the battery terminals.

It's better to fill the battery with electrolyte instead of water.
But if you don't have H2SO4 sulfuric acid, then distilled water is preferable.

Yeah, I'd personally love to go all-in and get rid of the car altogether. It's paid for though so no real point dumping it. I've wasted too much of my life in cars, especially when I had a long commute in LA, that was just brutal. I walk everywhere now - even though I technically work from home now i got myself a little office space about 10 blocks away so I can get out of the house and get a little more exercise on top of the gym.

couldnt do it ....

I dont fear much in this world but the day I have to hand over the keys (assuming I make it that far) is one of them, for me that is the beginning of the end ...........

It is interesting how people's viewpoints differ depending on location and experience. To me it would be liberating to live without a car, to you exactly the opposite. Big world!
 
The Van's battery is tooooooooast. It's been sitting dead for about 3 weeks now. The wife's car, well, now I remember that it was dead the day we bought the car. We had the doors all open for a long while during our inspection. Figured it was just sitting for an hour with the lights going, us playing with buttons and testing things out that killed it. Now I'm not so sure.

Bought two batteries today and swapped the wife's out already. I have to do some maintenance on the Van before I put that one in.

All is well.
