Can Your Meat Diet Kill You???

We are as a species made to eat both meat and plants (like Spe8ctre said, we are omnivores). Health problems are not caused by the fact that we eat meat, they are caused by the fact that we eat TOO MUCH of it.

A regular intake of protein and complex carbs = nice stuff.

It amazes me how many people think that you have to go to what I, for the lack of a better term, like to call extremes to be healthy. And I don't think the term "healthy" is discussed enough either. Is being healthy defined as never having any issues at all climbing trees until you just suddenly die in your sleep at 107 years old? Or is being healthy living until you are 85 in a state of happiness and contentment, where you most of the time can take care of yourself and get by without being a particular burden to those close to you and society in general? I vote for the last one.

Far more important than adhering to strict diets for various reasons, I believe people should be conscious of how what they eat affect the environment. Eating less meat is more environmentally friendly and more sustainable, but environmental issues still do not make it necessary for is to cut out all meat.

Eat as little pre-processed food as possible. Not just because the way it is processed MAY not be all good for you, but the processing takes energy. Also, be more cocerned by how the food is packaged for the same reason.

Fish is a valuable source of protein and wholesome fat that should be eaten a lot more by many. (Not liking fish is just a "luxury symptom" caused by the fact that we can afford to be picky.) Wild instead of farmed fish if possible.

When it comes to the ethical aspects of eating meat, I think about it this way: Animals eat other animals. We are animals and thus we can eat other animals. There is no good or evil involved here. Killing for food is just a fact of life. However, we are conscious of how our actions affect nature and therefore I think we have an obligation to treat whatever we kill with respect before we kill it. We should also strive not to waste anything when we take a life for food.

But in the end it boils down to whatever floats your boat. If you are healthy and happy with your current diet, by all means continue.

I haven't cut out beer....Gahr. :)

Its almost liquid bread, right???
I will never be one of the guys claiming beer is a wonderful health drink. However, there is a bit of vitamin B and fiber in beer, and it is also a good source of silicone which can help keep osteoporosis at bay: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/02/100208091922.htm

So, I guess it can be part of a balanced diet. But everything in moderation. Alcohol is not necessarily always a good thing...

The main benefit of beer is that it tastes bloody good and is a great social lubricant.

Im trying to cut back on my 1.75ml/month intake of 80 proof Scotch too...maybe a little beer?

Well said Gahr.

The wife says this-----if you had to go out and kill your food every day----- youd eat a lot more vegetables----

Grew up on a farm...raised and killed my own meat and vegetables...also hunted for meat and killed and processed it myself. I have no problem with it.

No problem with hunting. No problem with people who hunt. I have done it, but choose not too.

It's cool if it works for you. I quit hunting long ago. I wasn't enjoying eating the meat any longer and I never kill for sport.

I hope the diet makes you feel better. I just go for moderation in all things instead of total elimination from my life.

Well, I started this journey with breakfast on Sunday July 16, 2017 - I weighed in at 230 pounds at 6'-2" tall. I cut out all meat, and all dairy/eggs, but changed nothing else. No more or less water intake, no more or less coffee intake and no exercise at all yet.

This morning I weighed 219.9 pounds. I have way more energy and feel really great. Although I have always felt good, it's nice to feel great.....

Congrats..... whats your target weight? How is your cholesterol/ triglycerides and B.P.? comparatively

Robert, what about beer and wine. I'd like to do this diet, too, but must I sacrifice the booze?
