Can you hear the "hollow" in an electric guitar?

Ray, did you buy that SG from an ETSG member or is it a single owner guitar?
I seem to remember it. Oh and what type tone from PUPS do you look for? Contrast the preference vs what you hear and are not sold on the 57's

I am on the prowl for a low dollar Peavey Version .....the JF-1

They also have a Jack Daniels version but they are a bit "spendy" for me

I read great reviews on the peavey. However, the best domestic deal I saw was thenOscar Schnidt OS-30. Very nice look and sound stock, and $239 shipped brand new. It has a bolt on neck, but that does not bother me. I just did not dig their natural finish, which is what I am after

I bought that new from Rainbow Guitars. It got its name from the owner, Harvey Moltz, who helped put this one of a kind baby in my hands. I am the first owner, and last until death do us part.

As always, I look for a pups with a warm bluesey tone. I always felt that the '57 had too much high end. While you can EQ that stuff out or roll of the rone knob, that is an inferior solution for me. Anything more than a slight use of the tone knob makes things sound muffled to me.

Pedals take care of OD for me, so pups do not need to be too hot. Modern pedals are so effective!!

YEpp as I recall it was an Epi-- which made it even more stunning IMHO--

Ray the Washburn is an excellent guitar--- I had an opportunity for a blue burst one locally at 250 w/HSC a couple weeks ago --- but I was in PRS mode and passed on it lol

I had one 5 years or so ago--- it is great quality and occasionally you can score one (as I did then) for around 100.00 ---as I recall it "flipped out " for closer to 2 bills .....and the profit rolls on........

There may be one in my future!

Gotcha, Ray. You are the opposite of brother Herndon

Looks forward to having Smitty come check out my ES 135 with the 57's plus my T Top Epi LP etc when we hook up on Thursday. It ought to get interesting. Could be an " It Might Get Loud" scenario at my girlfriend's house.

I'm planning on how I'm gonna fit about four guitars, my amp, and pedal board in a Chevy Spark!

Right now, I'm planning on both my Les Pauls, both my SGs, and my Strat.

Wait, that's FIVE guitars!

It's gonna be guitars to the roof!

That's interesting to hear you say. A lot of folks complain about muddiness with the Classic 57s. But, I have them in my SG Original 2 and notice they are fairly bright, as well.
They came in 2 of my guitars, the SG and the CS336. Both times too bright. I could not reconcile them in the SG. As you know, I am doing a better job of taming them in my CS336, but it has taken effort.

I wonder how a series of changes in various factors would have effects on the 57's for Ray.

First, pickup height/ string height adjustment. 2nd, the Amps used, Speakers too. Also, room dynamics. I wonder how the 57's would sound in let's say a room 3,4,5 7 10 times the size that he is used to playing in.

yep.It started with those pesky 57 classics. Then I tried Tom Anderson PH (HB sized PQs) Then this - 59/09 neck and HFS bridge. I put the gold screw pieces in the pups and added the black hardware (used to be all gold, including the pups). I still have all the original hardware, of course.

I tried a few sets of Gibson pickups in my SG. Never could get acceptable tone from them. The 57 Classics were a big disappointment.
