I think the first is better. It's simpler and less visually distracting. People can recognize at a glance what they are. The lower one requires more visual scrutiny. It is also more visually "busy". It also introduces a large amount of white which will take over the look against the red head band.
You want something like this to be a decoration which complements the look.
