I'd put the other six strings back on. I reckon that would be a wicked 12-string.

That suggestion honestly didn't cross my mind.
I assembled the 12 string kit for my wife, the result was acceptable but not great. It was a good bit of timber let down by bottom end screw on bits. A bit later she got a 12 string Ricki and the kit sat unloved.
Now it really has some street cred BUT I've been blinkered looking at the 6 string conversion and upgrades. I'll seriously consider taking the 6 top end tuners off to reduce dive and weight leaving the option to move between 6 or 12 easily.
Thanks for suggestion, still unsure but now it's playing very well there's no hurry to cut it up.
