I apologize ahead of time if this post offends anyone, but I just had to share what happened to my wife and I - we are still trying to contact Dollar General corporate, we've posted it on the local craigslist and it keeps getting flagged. My wife put it on her face book. If it violates TTR rules just delete it I guess - BUT, I am really reaching out to my fellow TTR Herd for I don't know what. I can't believe this just happened today to my wife and I, but I assure I am not exaggerating one bit in what is stated below. Please, don't make this political or about a debate about masks:

Breaking News...

Mixed Couple Discriminated Against by Dollar General Store # 17871 - Racism ???

So, the wife and I go to the Dollar General store the other day. I sat in the car for the most part but stuck my head in towards the end - got bored sitting in the car I guess. But, there were some customers wearing masks in the store and some customers not wearing masks - same for the employees, some were and some weren't type thing. That wasn't our issue, neither the wife and I care about that and think people should have the right to choose to wear a mask or not. BUT, here's what happened today...

So, today we go to the same DG with out masks. We go into the store behind three other people (all white), all who walk past a store employee that had her mask around her chin/neck. Again, no biggy as far as we are concerned, BUT... this same employee, with her mask down around her chin/neck stops my wife and I and tells us we can't come in and shop or get service unless WE put masks on. The difference? Well, I'm white, but my WIFE isn't. So...

What just happened to us? Why is an employee at this DG choosing who can wear a mask or not and why did this employee tell me my non-white wife that we had to have masks while allowing three white people to walk right past her and say nothing to them. Remember, this employee wasn't even wearing her mask around her mouth and nose, she had it around her chin/neck while telling us we couldn't come in without a mask...

We're we just victims of racism or what ???

Again, the wife and I don't care if someone chooses to wear a mask or not - it's not an issue to us, but when we experienced what we experienced today - well, we are both very upset and angry and wondering if we were targeted because my wife isn't white. Here is the DG store this took place at:

Dollar General
Store # 17871

I don't, man. We feel so violated over this. The employee was so - emotionless and yet arrogant at the same time - like she was just looking down her nose at us.

Maybe those who feel inclined might share the above on facebook, etc - or how ever ???

The only way to stop the spread of the virus is if everyone wears a mask.
You shouldn't go into any public place without a mask.
Wearing a mask is a social responsibility. And a necessity.

Your country is having a lot of problems right now with a deadly virus, and your'e not helping. Start taking this seriously.

I don't know tbh what was going through the minds of all involved, whether it is racially motivated or not.

If the store policy is to wear masks and their employee is asking to people to wear masks when she herself isn't wearing one, then the store needs to have a chat with the employee. Firstly about wearing a mask herself and secondly about ensuring everyone in the store not wearing a mask is advised to put one on and not to single anyone out.

Of course I assume whether anyone agrees with compulsary mask wearing or not, that their choice is to not shop in that store.

YMMV

I am behind you one hundred percent in your fight against racism. I myself am a member of a mixed race marriage. If I can support you in any way in that regard, please let me know.

However, mask wearing has become a divisive political topic. For that reason, I must close this thread.
