We threw this down earlier today as a demo/cover song. I decided to keep it in a single-guitar format, since that's all we currently have, so the guitar part was cut in a single take. The guitar parts were panned 80% right and left. Then, the two guitar tracks were 'Ghosted' with a treble boost and extra reverb, then panned 100% left and right as well.

it's tough to make this song sound good with only one guitar, considering how a huge part of JP's sound was the twin-guitar attack of Downing and Tipton, but I thin this turned out decent.

My session drummer friend provided the beat and I played the bass on this effort as well.

Equipment used was my 2016 Gibson S-G (with 57 Classic Plus in the bridge) into a Bad Cat Cub 40 (rack mount) running out into a single 12" Celstion isolation box miked with a SM57.

Working on backing vocals right now and need to schedule the singer to come over to my home studio and lay down the vocals this week.

At present, I'm doing some session work for various projects, but I'm only working with one band now - Vintage Graffiti.

Once in a while I will do a fill-in as a bass player or guitarist, but I'm trying to put all my effort into this current venture.
 
The cool thing about this song is the guitar is laid down in one single take. Straight into the ampm No pedals or external effects. No post-recording EQ.

While reverb was added in the mixdown and panned to make things sound fuller, this is truly a one-take guitar arrangement that can be duplicated live.

Would that be the classic hard rock cover band you have been talking about? Sounds fun!
 
Here's a lost demo recording from the old Fire Control band dating back to November of 2019. This was recorded in my home studio and I am playing all guitars and bass, with drums courtesy of session drummer extraordinaire, Ffej Rednil.

Lead vocals were provided by Blind Attribution's James Welte. I am singing 3 separate tracks of backing vocals.

All guitar tracks were played on my Black Les Paul (Faux Paul Garage Built Copy) with Epiphone H8BN bridge pickup through my studio mule Blackstar ID-Core 100 direct out...

Bass was played on my $60.00 Ibanez Import through a fender Rumble 40 direct out.

This was recorded on Audacity via a Focusrire 2i2.

The solo at 1:22 is totally improvised and doesn't follow the original theme of the song.

At the time, our band was just forming and we didn't have a demo to use for advertisement.

Our drummer and bass player quit when Jim and I used this demo to pitch to venues for paying jobs.

Thanks for listening and noticing. What I lack in talent, I try to make up for in good tone. I also prefer rhythm playing to soloing, so I have always been content playing the rhythm parts.
It still amazes me how guys quit a band when things are seemingly going really good...

Now that Black Faux Paul and Blackstar just sound incredible on a direct-out recording, while I think my DSL40's sound better live.

Here's another cool recording featuring the Faux Paul and the Blackstar. This solo was cut totally dry with no reverb:

For a time I fancied myself a T-shirt seller on redbubble, and put a whole series of Mondegreen graphics up which was fun at the time, but I think i sold two shirts for about 50 hours work LOL!
There's also a "Slow motion Walter... fire engine guy" version too LOL

We found this old file recently with the only recorded appearance of my 2016 Gibson SG T Series, which eventually went to @esge.

I would later re-record this with my black les paul copy, but that (and almost my entire Audacity folder) was lost in a 2020 PC hard drive crash. I had sent this file to a friend as an aup.3 and he later found it and sent it back to me via email. I was able to identify the SG by the label on the tracks.

Our drummer laid down the basic drum tracks and I followed up with playing the bass lines. Next, I added the guitar tracks and an improvised solo. This is the only recording I have of the 2016 Gibson SG T-Series, which was used.

This was the last recording we did about 3 days before the group disbanded - in November of 2019. A few months later, in January 2020, our old singer stopped by and we recorded his lead vocals. It was a swan song of sorts I suppose, but it is one of the very few recordings from the band 'Fire Control.'

Over the years, I deleted some DropBox files to make room for newer files and it's a real shame that I didn't opt for more storage because many great recordings were lost forever.
