BOSS Metal Zone MT-2...

Anyone have one of these great pedals? Of course I have one that I bought quite a few years back at a pawn shop for only $25. I saw one recently in the pawn shop going for $75 but it must be in real good condition. Mine is a bit beat up from the previous owner but nothing is broken on it and the pedal works simply fine.

I have to say that this is one of the best distortion/overdrive pedals I've ever owned. It turns my Fender Twin Reverb amplifier into a Marshall stack. Lately I've been using my Digitech Bad Monkey overdrive pedal as a booster to give the Metal Zone an extra push over the cliff. The Metal Zone pedal is a very versatile pedal in tone, sound, etc. It has four knobs with your usual LEVEL & DIST. knobs but the 2 inner knobs are concentric meaning that they are like 2 knobs in one. So basically this pedal technically has 6 control knobs for dialing in the perfect sound and there are so many tones to choose from.

If anyone does not have this pedal I would highly recommend it and a must-have to add to your pedal collection. It delivers a nice tight distortion sound that is distinctive and cuts through the mix. I've been using it a lot lately and it's one of the best pedals I've invested in.

Both of them pedals are totally awesome. I got my MT-2 back in the early 90s. I find mine a little fussy to dial in depending on different conditions, amps, guitars, room acoustics, etc. I'm a big fan of both. I have a Behringer pedal that is a clone of the one Goldmember put up on here. It works pretty good for a clone. The Boss one is a totally bitchen pedal. Thanks for bringing this up Blackie! You know Bro, these MT-2 get both a great deal of love ( from folks like us! ) or hate from other people. The general tone of it reminds me of the 80s metal tone. Right now I'm starting to get into and appreciate many of the heavy bands from the 80s which I knew very little about. I'm talking about bands like Y&T and Mr. Big. I'm an older Cat, I just turned 63 late Sept, so I'm into music from 50s, 60s and 70s big time. Like it or not, Boss has sold many many MT-2 since they have come out.

I have the HM-2 (first pedal mod, a jumper to use a regular power supply). Not bad, but not what I would call versitile. I'll check out the MT-2 next time I come across one. I've been thinking about a Rat for a metal tone, maybe the MT-2 would fit even better.

Uh oh. I checked out a few vids, some reviews and that fast - GAS. I checked out my dealer's web site to see how much a fix will cost me. GC has a bunch used starting at 30.00. Of course, I'll try one first. It doesn't look good for me. See what happens when I come to this place!!!

Blackie,
I have never tried one but now you have got me wondering! I have tried LOTS of pedals trying to get the roar of a Marshall stack at reasonable (for my wife) volumes.
The best I have found so far (IMHO of course) is the Tech 21 British.
I will have to try this one. I have a Boss DS-1 and a Joyo Ultimate Drive (RAT clone) that do a good heavy metal impression.

It seems there is a MT 2w out now too.

That thing sounds great!

MZ's are killer pedals but have a bad reputation because they have been so abused by the budding "Brootalz" players that dime the gain on their amp and the MZ. Just listen to how great the guys in this clip sound!

Totally agree its an incredibly versatile and misunderstood pedal. And I'd be willing to guess we've all heard it on more recordings than we'd like to believe.

Hey, if your interested in the Metal Zone MT-2 they have it at Cash Connections in Oshawa at Park Rd. & King St. Isn't that where you bought your Godin Empire guitar from what I remember?
