BOSS Katana 50 Combo

So, my Katana 50 had been on basically a long-term loan to a buddy of mine and I had not plugged into it for something like a year-and-a-half, but I recently "traded" him one of my Blackstars for it and got it back.

First off, I think all my earlier thoughts on this amp at any kind of high volume still apply: get the 100 if you are going to be playing with a band, period. That being said, I'd forgotten just how good the amp can be as a jam/at-home/practice solution. Some of what it can do (as long as you don't turn it up too loud) is really amazing for the money. Got to be the best practice amp ever, and I've heard they are even better now - I got mine from the first batch when they were released, and supposedly they've been improved.

Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is looking for a killer inexpensive practice amp that can also do light duty for a jam.
 
I am not a fan of the Katana50 at least the one I tried when I was looking for practice amp and one I could use in a Band setup if needed. I found it cheaply built, I didn't like the cleans and I don't like all the effects it produces. Most of them to me are a waste.. I have the Orange 35RT which I really like is my main amp is solid very well constructed, control knobs and switch quality.

Funny you should say that. I've always bitched about the build quality and uselessness in a band setting (and I felt it necessary to change out the speaker by the end of the first day of owning it), but thought the effects were brilliant...it's made by Boss after all, and no company knows more about effects, but not all things are useful to all people. TBH, I'm not sure I have ever even played the thing clean, it's built and marketed as a "Rock" amp and all I have really ever used is the brown channel, which again, I personally feel is brilliantly executed for what it is and the price point.

I am thinking of buying a Katana 50mii or a Fender LT50. I owned an older Mustang III that I loved, but still leaning Boss this time. I do have a question or two:
1. I see you can change the chain path somewhat, though it is fixed. Specifically, can I put a clean boost or other boost in the fx chain AFTER the amp for lead boosts? That's how I like to do it. I don't think the LT50 can do this at all.
2. Dumb question, too lazy to look ;-) How do you change patches on the amp itself, and how many can you have?

First part dunno. I would have to hook my amp up to the computer n look.

The 50 (this is why I bought the 100, it has 2 banks of 4) has 2 banks of 2 patches. What I really like about ti is that you can use the panel settings as normal like any amp, which I do. When I need a clean setting (rarely) or a solo, those are stored as presets. You simply set all the controls amd hold the button in for a couple seconds. To access it use a 2 button footswitch. I use the 6 button with the 100. Another advantage.
So hit the correct footswitch and you have the clean, hit another one takes you to pamel settings so you don't always have to use presets.
Nice. It's a nice light decent sounding practice amp. I would have to look tmrw at the first one. It can be endlessly tweaked with a comoiter.
