Boss Katana 100 or Fender Pro Jr. or something else?

Kerry, Glad to hear your report a small grab and go amp is great. I loved Canada so much I had to move to Alaska.
I've always wanted to visit Alaska. It's on my bucket list, Yukon and Alaska. About a year before my mother passed away she went on a train ride called the White Pass and Yukon Route. She couldn't stop talking about it.

Took the Pro Junior and my SG Special to the Chieftain bar jam last night. The amp is a keeper. The bar was packed and a lot of players were there so I only got to play a few songs but the tone was sweet and easily goes from clean to dirty blues by playing with the guitar volume and tone. I was worried about a single ten inch speaker and 15 watts. The house drummer is very loud and my amp ended up behind his kit. The volume was never above 1:00 o'clock on the Pro Junior. It's is an awesome amp if you like the Fender on the edge of saturation tone. I set the volume to 1:00 o'clock, the tone to 11:00 o'clock and never had to touch it again.
Doesn't get any sweeter than that. Congrats on some tonal nirvana...

The wife and I did an Alaska cruise in 2006 with a stop in Skagway. The wife is the planner and she setup a ride on the White Pass and Yukon railway. The trip takes you from Skagway up the mountains in to Fraser, Canada. It was built in 1898 in support of the Klondike gold rush.

It’s a great slow ride up the gorgeous mountain scenery. But instead of taking the same train back down, the wife had setup for a car ride back down. A place in Skagway has about a dozen old vehicles he used to rent out, but insurance got too expensive, so now he hires them out with his own drivers. So, we were met in Fraser with this old Caddy limo, in pristine condition. Every stop on the way down (scenic stops) the guys that got off tour buses would come over and we’d BS about the caddy. I opened the hood a few times.

So when we got back home the wife looks on the WP&YR website and saw they had a photo contest. The wife submitted this train picture and won first place. They set us a few hundred dollars of their stuff; we got beach towels, hats, blankets, coffee mugs, etc.

I highly recommend the WP&YR trip to anyone.

I bought an original USA made Pro Jr. when they were fairly new on the market. It's been one of my favorites for a long time. I put an Eminence Ragin Cajun in it a while back. It really brings the best out of it and it's much louder than the stock speaker.

I thought I'd update this. I really liked the Pro Junior IV and thought about buying it. They wouldn't give me a deal on the rental unit so I took it back and bought a used Pro Junior III that has a Ragin Cajun speaker and brand new JJ tubes. So far I like it almost as much as the version IV. The IV had a different taper on the volume pot. The III has less travel before it starts to overdrive. The actual loudness is about the same but it comes in earlier on the dial. Not sure if I'm a fan of the Rajin Cajun but I'll try it for a while. I may also put in some Tube Store Preferred Series tubes. They have been awesome in every amp I've tried them in.

IVE BEEN ON THAT TRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've found myself with a very loud bassist and drmmer where I was running the DSL40C on 40 watt setting over halfway up just to get a good mix....if you can make a small amp work for you that's awesome! Congrats!

I pretty much run it flat out playing live in a small bar. I set the volume around 2:00 o’clock and adjust my guitar volume depending on the song. The III hits full loudness around 9:00 o’clock on the dial. After that it’s all overdrive but it cleans up reasonably well with guitar volume.

I have not gigged with the Blackstar ID-CORE 100watt yet, but I think it might be ok. It still sounds good cranked up and doesn't thin out tonally.

I was at a friends house and he had a lower wattage ID-CORE. Not sure if it was 15 or 25 watts. I was quite impressed. He had done a lot of tweaking with his computer to dial in his sound. It was very loud for a low watt SS amp. The 100 watt one should be very giggable.

I'm hoping so! The quality of the onboard effects are awesome to say the least!!!!

Just a quick update to the Pro Junior saga. After a couple of jams I was not happy wth the Rajin Cajun speaker. It gets quite flabby at gig levels. This morning as I was having my morning coffee I saw a Jensen P10R on Craig's List. This is the same speaker that comes in the Pro Junior IV which I really liked. A few hours later it was in my Pro Junior III. It is awesome. It sounds way better and it's noticeably lighter. I'm a very happy camper.
