The weight benefit makes it an easier proposition to lug it to the gig so I’m more than happy to use it!

I’m sure the Blackstar doesn’t move the air quite the same way the Marshall does Robert, but in a band situation you may just prefer to go for the lighter weight and sound options?

Good points!!!!

The DSL40C is a monster in terms of speaker movement and sheer presence. It is the perfect amp for classic rock and I am super pleased with it.

I have no plans to replace it. It's my main amp.

The Blackstar is not only lighter, but its incredibly versatile. It doesn't require effect boxes. The onboard effects are superior in tone to any of my stomp boxes.

The 100watt Blackstar is also plenty loud. It doesn't sound as "big" as the DSL40C, but it is far more cultured. It just does everything well.

It's one of those amplifiers that you find yourself plugging into because its just so fun to play through...
 
Wow...this Blackstar really has impressed me with how good it sounds at elevated volume levels. Last night, I cranked it up for a bit and I was floored. I wasn't expecting it to be that loud AND still be articulate.

I preset a couple channels - one at 1/2 gain for rhythm with only hall reverb and the other at 3/4 gain with hall reverb and tape slap (spatial) delay for leads - and switched between them. The tone never gets thin and the speakers don't break up.

This was a great move...

They sound pretty amazing. One of my go-to amps to try guitars out at the local SA because they don't have Mesa's.

You even have me thinking about giving the ID Core another chance. I had a first-gen Core 10 and it was pretty blah but I have heard that the 2nd Gen ones are much improved.

I didn't like the tone of the ID-Core 40 and below....

The ID-Core 100watt is just a super amp. 27.5 pounds, great onboard effects and sounds good even cranked up and the 60watt tube is a big step up from that with 2x12's, despite the 67 pound heft!!!!
 
Your new amp will sound like the one you tested in the store. The store model has many hours on it.
The speaker break in is the thing you need to get right. I put a new amp or speaker cab face down on a carpet. I put a book under one end and run a loop of any thing that cover the total fret board.
A bunch of annoying chorded. I leave it in my office at the hospital and at a high volume. I come in the next day and it's ready to fly. I have returned great amps because they sounded tinny. I did not believe that crap about breaking in a speaker.

Robert you are so right about dragging around a boat ankor. I bought the Monoprice 15 watt and I can carry it. The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is a ton, or 60 pounds depending on your atmosphere. The one that took a poop, Silkyn is worse. I'm in no hurry to get that up and running. The Fender Head Pro 1000 is crazy heavy. Two years ago I put it on the empty set next to me on a flight to New York City. I can't do that now.
 
silkyn never went to market with the economic downturn in 2008
had 1st run production inventory, company folded.
Liquidator bought them was suppose to part out.
sold them on eby for like $160. +$50 shipping.

turns out power transformers were wound incorrectly and prone to heat induced failure.
Some of got new ones through a fellow over on MLP forum who contact a winder and set up a special run.
Think it was close to $200, i want to say $180 for the replacement.
I really like it, but I cant wind it up much.

MF has a Jet attenuator on stupid deal of the hour right now, I would buy one but still have to explain the Orange to The Warden before it gets to the house.
 
Like he said exactly, they do have a wonderful tone. I bought two, I gave my girl Tia one, her amp pooped out in New York City at my old apartment. She called an amp repair place and it was up and running that day. I keep finding other stuff to do to avoid fixing it. The guy that designed it was a fancy pants boutique amp guy. When they go they really go, not far but they go.
