(Different type for the PQ 3)

Neck will be the Bare Knuckle Nantucket.

Bridge will be the Tom Anderson PQ3 (probably only in humbucking series for the time being).

I also ordered up, rather optimistically, as I don't think I'm gonna get it working on a circuit board:

(I don't think the 2011 standard had push/pulls, so there's no reason why the circuit board from a 2011 SG will work just by changing a pot - even if a single pot can be changed; so, I'm not optimistic here, but I can always build a harness later if I am missing the split option in the bridge pickup).

I think you know what's coming, I don't think most of you like the idea, but the plan is:

Minimal change! I hope the new p90 batwing fits exactly in the holes then I'll fix the P90s to the wood or some wood/foam formation, and getting connectors for the new pickups, so a simple batwing change and two pickup connectors will change the guitar from P90 loveliness back to the original unmolested humbucking original state.

I am a tad worried about P90 height when screwed into the body aswellas being worried about screwing straight through the body! But, time will be taken here, and I'll be working with a professional woodworker/luthier.

Bring it on, baby!

That was my biggest fear when I did the 3 P90 perversion to mine, screwing thru the back...
But by screwing the pickups into the body it will defeat the convertible effect your seeking.
If they were pickguard mounted you could truly swap back & forth.
I applaud the idea though. With a nice collection of loaded pickguards you could go from a Jr. to humbucking, to P90 and back again
with little more than a string change, bridge removal & few screws.

Ha you and Johnny Goo and Rva need to open up a Guitar shop . Yall could take apart MEDIOCRE guitars and gut them out and GREATLY IMPROVE and UPGRADE them all day. Yall could sell guys BORING GUITARS BENEATH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL and not let them leave with their BORING guitar until its been GREATLY IMPROVED! LOL but anyway LOL post up you finished product and let us see and hear how it works out.
BTW, I IDOLIZE RVA

Indeed.

Yeah, you're right - we'll have to see how we go.

I want a P90 guitar for Hendrixy stuff; sometimes buckers don't give the fuzz tomes required; yes, I will be needing fuzz...

1--- why wouldn't you wire a split or parallel while you are in there
2- gut the board and do some point-to-point wiring. It will uncomplicate things
3- see #2
4- with a lutier by your side, you do not have anything to worry about...unless he does not know how to wire!! But I can help you with that.

Don't go 1/2 way. Do this!!!

Say Grump your post got me started on my own butcher shop project. So a couple years ago i built 2 Precision Guitar Kits 1961 SG JRs.One had a factory Humbucker route and one had a factory P90 Dog Ear route.Well when i built the JR with the P90 Dog Ear i put in a Bare Knuckles Supermassive P90 and its Awesome.Well ive tried various Humbuckers in the JR with the Humbucker route and most pups have sounded good but ,well to shortin this story i had a brand new Bare Knuckles Warpig P90 Dog Ear sitting on the shelf. So thanks to you Mr Grumpy i took the Humbucker JR apart and the dremmel and drill out Modded it for the Warpig P90.Fooking thing is a beast.JRs are just meant to have P90 Dog Ear pups i believe. Here ya go20170606_055320.jpg

Yes and yes sort of lol.if you was to look real close you can see a hair line gap where the Humbucker route is.ya it didnt take much butchering,i mean modification to route the hole for the dog ear

Yeah, I remember that; some good threads.

Barely visible if you look hard; nice job - and pleased you like the sounds.

You've said before that you rate the dogear mounted P90s more, and I seem to hear that difference too on comparison clips although hard to say without the guitars in your hand.

Now, I've just about got all the bits together, just waiting for one black pickup cover.

But, I'm increasingly unclear on which one to butcher - I did buy the tribute to chop up, sell parts and turn into a P90, but it's less 'undoable' than if I butcher the faded.

I just reckon I could get that future tribute looking nicely like an ebony standard that I very much like the look of. Now, how to sort out the pickguard with those 24 frets...

The 57s are very noticeably hotter than the 490s although the 490s do respond nicely to a strong pick attack.

I go back and fro between preferring the 490R and 57 neck pickups; probably not much between them.

I've been struggling to find 490T/57+ overdriven sounds that I really like, and with that AY puppy just sitting there - think I'll whack it in the tribute bridge position later in the week when I have time.

Very cool. That works just fine then. Good to know!

yes the overall width was just about perfect. The ear part in the wood where the humbucker pickup ring mounts had to be carved out but no biggy.worked fine

Now if one was gonna go with the soap bar P90 you will be in for a lot more work. The dog ear style P90 is a hair wider i would guess than the soap bar and just the way it mounts is gonna hide alot of the butchering.I like that term hahaha.
