Best simple, idiots-guide to recording guitar?

Hey thats good advice to me! The SM57 im pretty familiar with and used to actually have a few of those around here somewhere, but as for Scarlett: is that the Focusrite interface? And unfortunately I got a damn Android and I dont think garageband works with it. I might have to find another good source
You can almost always substitute Reaper for Garage Band...unless all that you have is an Android device, and no computer. I keep saying something like; Reaper...it’s as easy as you’d like, and as deep as you’d ever need.
I'm not that picky about interfaces these days...you can get some pretty good results from some simple, and inexpensive, gear....you just have to go through the learning curve.

That said, are you exclusively android? No iOS devices? iPad?
Best of luck!

Reaper will probably run fine on your laptop. You will just need an interface...like the earlier mentioned Scarlett series, or something. They seem to be popular around here. I’m using a USB mixer these days, mostly. I have a few other options kicking around though.
iOS is very audio friendly, and there are a few good, and simple, options available....along with decent connectivity options with most USB interfaces. My old iPad 2 is still working as a 24 track recorder that works really well for quick recordings on the go, or at home.

I appreciate all your help my friend! I will definitely be checking all of this out!

On a side note: call it lack of paying attention, but ive had a Line 6 X3 Live for years now, only ever used it as a guitar processor. But i was looking up interfaces last night and i read that it itself is technically an interface? It has Mic Inputs and outputs, as well as a USB interface with software apparently, in addition to being able to work with guitar, bass and vocals. Would this thing be something Ive had all along that couldve worked and i was too dumb to notice or am i completely misguided? Lol

Righty-right!
Mic inputs and outputs?
A little of the old in-out, eh?

I too am still trying to get familiar with recording beyond cell phone.

I recorded 1 clip on the basic rig I have but just dont have the time, as usual, to delve into it.
MIc'd cab >Focusrite 2 input > USB into Win10 laptop >into Audacity.

I need to watch more tutorial videos I guess......

Love Clockwork Orange references, me droogie! And appreciate the info, gonna get cracking on this thing. I would just like to be to record and playback things to hear where im screwing up ( which will probably eat up a lot of hardrive!)

Hey man when you buy scarlet interface they give you free recording software. Its bit tricky to set it up from bigening but once you get going you be fine. they give you 3 project space on cloud which you can upgrade if you want.
You can do it old way mic the cab with sm57 or which ever you choose or you can do like load box and then cab sim

way i do it is i mic the cab

By the way nice riffige and tone , how do you get that tone what speakers do you use?

cheers

Awesome! Gonna look into that since everyone is suggesting thats the direction to go.

And dude, coming from someone on your level? Thats an incredible compliment! Thank you a million times over!

I am basically just using a JCM2000 DSL50 with the only thing different is im using a 12AU7 in the V1 slot to reduce some of the gain and expand more headroom. The amp is running into both a 1960A cab with G12-T75 Celestions and then a MF400B cab with G12K-100 Celestions and front boosting the amp with a Joyo Ultimate Drive (Fulltone OCD clone), with a little noise suppression to take some of the edge off.

Settings wise?
OD2 channel, Bass on 10, Mid on 6.5, Treble at 8, Presence at 5, reverb at 1, Deep switch in, tone shift out and gain at 4.5. The pedal has the gain at about 11 o clock ( 30%?) Level at about 8 o clock (10-15%?) And the tone up to about 4 o clock 80% with the switch on high mode.

Again, thank yo so much!

Well your one level of play is wicked then lol
Yeah I really dig the 75s as well! The V30 is a classic but i like the mids you can get from the 75s, just slightly warmer and brighter. The K100s are pretty close to the 75s but with more bass, so as a bottom cabinet i think they work well.
And thank you once again my friend! Ill work on trying to make a few other videos

For the largest part, ive always kinda bounced back and forth with classic and hard rock, to metal. Theres a ton of bands i love but a few off the top of my head? Ac/Dc, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, UFO, Motorhead, Hendrix, Killswitch Engage, In Flames, Aerosmith, etc.

Thank you so much my friend! Means the world to me. Really just threw that together to hear it played back but hey, if someone likes it? Awesome! Someone like you liking it? Humbled!
I love to hear all my brother’s playing, makes for a better day, and there is some awesome talent around us here.
Thanks for the compliment.
Cheers
Mitch
