TS variants need to push a dirty or verge of break up tube amp to shine.
Can be ok on its own, again depends what you are after.
Not a Dano - My Daddy '0 is a very good Marshally type pedal, often compared to the Guv'nor.
$30 used shipped Reverb. Maybe $35.
It does a real nice early AC/DC through PAF ish humbuckers.
Though Malcolm is real hard to nail down mimicking the Filtertrons.
And a Proco Rat2 is just a handy all around awesome pedal.
Under $70 new I think it was.
Makes a good bludgeoning or thrown weapon if need be as well.
just my limited experience $.02, YMMV.

Sounds like a killer setup!
I do use a TubeScreamer to put a little hair on an otherwise clean sound. Other than that, I’d rather have a two channel amp...or your dual amp setup.

Thanks Smitty. The Metro Amp Head Master switcher is a great unit
As with all Metropolous products its very solidly built with high quality components. Grounds the input & properly loads the speaker output (15 ohm/50watt power resistor) of the amp head not in use.
Like you, I much prefer the more natural sound of an amp in its sweet spot & use a pedal only to add a little when the amp cant be pushed quite enough.
Another favorite pedal for this is the Fred Briggs designed Super OCD. Really good pedal, much more than just an OD. Its DIY only, but well worth putting together. Cheers

I have Marshall--- in a box --- its a MARSHALL
I have Orange in a Box---
Kustom in a box-
and Fender modeling (plethora of stuff) in a box.....
Peavey Piranha ---6505 Peavey tone--in a box--
and a Behringer Tube Overdrive pedal.....used with my clean tube amps--- which is where it gets .....not so nifty--- its "o.k." but sort of muddy --- or SOMETHING I cant put my finger on but I dont like it 100% --- when a VERY nice tube amp sounds worse with a pedal-- than a modeling amp----shouldnt I try something else???
do I NEED another dirt pedal?

Oh and --- prefer not to pay a fortune ---- so something good-- but not a behringer-- or Danelectro--- (not that there is anything wrong with those if you like those) if you know what I mean ...

My reply is basically the same. Because of the amp I use (Peavey 6534+) I don't have a use for anything more than a mild boost.
On my bass amp, which is an old solid-state Peavey Mark VIII XP, I like a wide range of dirt pedals, from the T-Rex Mudhoney to the MXR Custom Badass Modified O.D. to the EHX Metal Muff to the Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal. The pedals I didn't like were the TC Electronics Rottweiler and the Way Huge Swollen Pickle.

Well -- I applied what some call "logic" --- well perhaps not but that is what I am going to call it. -- and I sermised that --
A. I have NO MORE ROOM in the Little Doom Room of BOOM
B. I cant possibly own EVERY Peavey (this was a hard and bitter pill) almost requiring RUM therapy
C. SMitty has a very well groomed beard/stash deal going-- I am envious
D. The sensitivity of 20 species of marine phytoplankton to free cadmium ion activity was measured in a similar manner using an NTA-cadmium ion buffer system. As observed with copper, the prokaryotic cyanobacteria were the most sensitive to cadmium toxicity, diatoms were the least sensitive, and coccolithophores and dinoflagellates were intermediate. All cyanobacteria tested were dead at a cadmium ion activity of 10−9.3 M whereas the reproduction rates of most of the eukaryotic algae were not reduced significantly until 10−8.3M.
SO this lead me to a conclusion--- RVA's EMPRESS multi fuinctional (and pricey) pedal had me searching "multi" pedals......
Then I came a cross an epiphany........ PEAVEY makes a pedal which houses WITHIN IN IT---- the TRANSTUBE technolgy so loved by many --- WITH the ability to transfer TRANSTUBE to any amp I WANT --- 200 watts---or 20 watts----
I give you the PEAVEY DIRTY DOG!!!!

Having never seen one of these "dirty dog's" I looked for a review of it. Seems that one half of it sounds similar to a Proco Rat, the other half kinda like a Boss Metal Zone. Though I didn't mention it earlier in this thread, I really like the Rat clone I made myself, I like it a lot, so if the review is right, just on that half of it alone you've done really well. Cheers

Best dirt pedal? As always, it depends. It depends on the amp, amp settings, and pickups. And what kind of dirt you want, of course. And ultimately, on personal preferences.
When I'm playing through the Vox AC30 or AC4, my absolute favorite is the Crowther Hotcake. A very versatile pedal, it goes from almost being simply a volume boost, through being a transparent overdrive to fuzz-like distortion at the twist of the drive knob. I find it works equally well with humbuckers and P90s. It seems like it was made with Vox amps in mind. I never felt like anything was missing with my AC30, but when I first tried the Hotcake I was floored. It really made things come alive.
Another favorite is the Rangemaster/Beano Boost. If I want to cut through, thats my go-to.
Playing a slightly scooped Fender amp, the Ibanez Tube Screamer (I have a TS808) really works well for bringing out the mids.
Transparent drive? The Soul Food is an absolute killer value-for-money pedal.
For fuzz? Aw, there is so much stuff to choose from! There must be at least three million great Fuzzface-type pedals out there, and almost as many Tonebender-type fuzzes. Germanium or silicon? Again, depends. I really like both the Analogman Sunface (Fuzzface) and Sunbender (Tonebender) pedals, and the Fulltone Octafuzz is great as well (with or without the octave function engaged).
