I've read great things about them for years, never anything negative. I'm thinking about trying a set in my Standard.
Just wired up my first set today. Had to wait until I got new mounting screws than had some issues with my soldering iron.
They are awesome sounding. I have the Silos and they have a far more grunt to them than my previous set. Strong smooth midrange and clear top end. Nothing too shrill on the upper frequencies for sure. I'm very impressed.
The demo is kind of hard to hear the pure tone of the pickups with all the Wah he's using, but I would say, no, the Silos sound very different than those Black Dogs. Way more modern toned than those tbh. Those are great sounding pickups though in the video. Classic tones with a hint of more modern musicality.Do they actually sound anything like the demo?
That's what I hate about production gear videos , they always add color to the sound. It makes it hard to get the real sound. I don't want effects or other instruments in the video. The demo is kind of hard to hear the pure tone of the pickups with all the Wah he's using, but I would say, no, the Silos sound very different than those Black Dogs. I agree. And not everyone plays lead, most demo vids are mostly lead playing and that doesn't tell me much. That's what I hate about production gear videos , they always add color to the sound. It makes it hard to get the real sound. I don't want effects or other instruments in the video.

Thank you and im glad video helped in someways!Ok, first off, excellent chugz, bro! Made my arm cramp up just watching that.
That tells me what I needed to know way more than any other demo I've found. Thank you!!!!!
I learned something watching that vid, turns out I actually do play thrash, I just do it in slow motion.![]()
This one is interesting. I wondered how the VH2 sounded.

I looked for one on reverb, but didn't find what I was looking for. I just ordered a Black Dog Bridge pickup direct. It did cost more than I expected, hopefully it's worth it. I have my fingers crossed.I've heard nothing but good things about them over the years. I really wanted to get a set of the Irish Tour Strat pickups when they were first released. The only turn off was using our play money against the Pound Sterling, then paying for shipping and duty fees. Aside from that, I've heard that Tim Mills listens to his customers and his pickups are always evolving for the better. If you have a domestic connection for them, and it isn't too expensive, I'd say go for them if you're sure that's what will get you the sound you're chasing.

Still much less than Gibson is asking for secret sauce. LolI looked for one on reverb, but didn't find what I was looking for. I just ordered a Black Dog Bridge pickup direct. It did cost more than I expected, hopefully it's worth it. I have my fingers crossed.![]()
