I made two excellent trades yesterday. I posted my new amp in another thread. This one I traded one incredible guitar, a McInturff Royal, for another, a Larrivee acoustic 12 string. I haven't played a 12 string in many years. I've always wanted a Larrivee and was itching for a 12 string lately. It was made in Victoria BC in 1980 0r 1985. It has a very good action for an old twelve string. Let me correct that, it has a very good action for any guitar. It is low with no buzzes anywhere. So far it stays in perfect tune so it is very stable for a 12 string. It has a spruce top, rosewood sides and back, mahogany neck, mother of pearl and abalone inlays and binding. It sounds even better than it looks, an amazing guitar. My fingers are not used to a 12 string and I can't put this guitar down. It's a conundrum.

Jean Larrivee started in Toronto, then Victoria, Vancouver, and now Oxnard, CA. He has trained some of the world's top luthiers. He has built guitars for Tommy Emmanuel among others. He is also one of the world's experts on tone wood. He supplies many of the world's top luthiers with sitka spruce. Here is a documentary from around the time my guitar was made. You can see his wife, Wendy, carving a similar inlay, a true old world craftsman. I didn't think I'd ever own a guitar like this. Can you tell I'm stoked?

Unfuking real! Wowzers.
That's an outstanding piece.
I'd be hard pressed to trade off a TCM, but in this case, you done good.
That's guitar art.

Finally had time to put some new strings on the Larrivee. I forgot how tedious it is changing strings on a 12 string :) Squamish is a small town, only one store that sells guitar strings and they only had one set in stock, D-Addario EZ940 85/15 Bronze .010-.050. The bass strings are a little heavier than what was on there. I think they old ones were .010-.047 D-Addario Phospher/Bronze but not sure. They were definitely bagged. Anyway it sounds even better with new strings. Much louder and a little more low end. Still in love with this guitar. The Fishman sound hole pickup sounds awesome though my old 1955 6AQ5 based amp.

I sent the serial number to Larrivée Guitars. They emailed me that it is a model L-42 and was made in the winter of 1981.
