I was going to say that also, Bernie Topin was an amazing songwriter and half of the team.
Elton accelerated in the rock world in the beginning. Saturday’s Night is Alright for Fighting.

The Melody for the Bernie Topin song ( fed up with Elton overload) “Yellow Brick Road” is significant.

I do think he has more talent than a lot of other people in the business. Not my favorite but acknowledged.

I knew someone who was in that scene back then, and knew Elton and Bernie. Because gay people could not be as public about their relationships as they can now, it was kind of hidden. He told me that they would end up in some sort of disagreement and end up going to the Spanish Mediterranean Coast for a couple of weeks. Their “make up” would usually end up being the creation of a new record.

As far as ABBA is concerned, “Knowing Me, Knowing You” and “Something Going On” are great songs for foreplay.
 
I love both of these bands.
I missed the vote on this because I was trying to weigh factors of overall popularity / album sales, how much I liked or listened to the bands back then vs. now, how much impact is has on me as a guitar player, impact on culture, etc.

It is tough but if I could only have one to listen to or learn to play the songs now and forever, is how I am approaching this.

Most people are taking it very seriously.

I just never go by what is popular to the world, it makes the outcome very predictable. Not by awards or sales. I am not saying to do what I do. What I am saying each vote is personal. I have heard my fill of radio tunes over the years. The radio just hammers a couple dozen songs over and over.

I think that’s why, when I listen it has several factors that matter to me like the guitar. Does the guitar rhythm rock ? Is it a unique style ? Can the lead be melodic, memorable and unique? It doesn’t have to be metal but that was always what I listened to in my youth and it will always be a part of the landscape.

The vocals , can he or she sing? There are a lot of good vocalist but I like to hear them scream the high and low notes, like Bruce.
Finally bass and drums, are they interesting?
If not, I move along.
